Sunderland RFC Club & Player Pathway For Life and For The Game

Sunderland RFC Club Ethos Sunderland RFC have short and long term aims those being: +To deliver safe enjoyable rugby skills coaching, training sessions, and playing experiences to all players from our local communities, groups and classes +To develop the game via; maximizing player participation, developing skills, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, positive attitudes, discipline, and respect for ; players, coaches and officials +To provide player pathway from mini to senior levels both within the club, the community, further and higher education, and into representative honors +To grow and retain game aware players by developing talent +To retain former players and provide volunteer roles to support a viable future for the club and the game +To provide mentoring of our players as they develop emotionally and physically For Life And For The Game

Player Pathway Sunderland RFC introduce children to rugby and work to develop (and retain) players into its senior sides: RFU New Rules / Age Grade Rugby is delivered from age groups U7 to U12 emphasizing enjoyment, then development of game awareness, core skills, running, carrying and support skills and decision making Coaches are coached how to deliver the requirements of the age grade section they work with RFU CRC will support coaching progressive changes to coaches and players within the age grade ranges Senior and Colts Lead Coaches actively help deliver training sessions within Junior and Youth sections to develop individual players and team club playing styles Players U14 upwards are developed with potential future positions in mind and recommended for District programmes and team trials and Ladies variations from U12 onwards Further education advice and options regarding induction events are highlighted to players (and parents) who may wish to participate in College Rugby Players U16 upwards continue to be developed with potential future playing positions in mind (whilst considering club future player requirements) commensurate with ability and capability assessments forwarded for County Trials / RFU programmes and Ladies variations Players U17 upwards participate in Colts style league competitions & structure with dedicated retained Coaches to support transition through Colts into Senior Rugby and Ladies variations from U15 onwards Visiting University Students are welcomed into senior sides. Established Youth / Colt players departing for Higher Education are provided with University / College coaching contacts Player progression and development are monitored and assessed through Colts into Senior training and into games from Ladies Sparks to Flames and Colts to 3rdxv through to 1st xv Coaches are encouraged to promote individual players and playing units attend additional club coaching sessions to identify and develop talent Club Coaching Coordinators work with players teams and coaches to deliver the Pathway
