2 CLUB LOGO AGE GROUPS RED Players born 2002 or later ORANGE Players born 2001 or later (2002 when you reach red level 1) GREEN Players born 2000 only (no 2001 born players may play green ball competitions) FULL BALL 12U - 1998 or 1999 14U - 1996 – 1999 16U - 1994 – 1999 18U - 1992 – 1999 It is important for players to stay in the colour stage relevant to their age to enable them to develop skills with the size of racket and ball suitable for their physical development Players MUST play in their respective age group unless they have a player passport RED 1’s can play in Orange Competitions These age groups will be used from 1 st September 2009 – 31 st August 2010

3 CLUB LOGO Eligible competition formats RED: Match tie break to 10 points ORANGE: Best of three tie breaks or 1 short set GREEN :1 short set or best of three short sets [optional match tie break for third set] FULL BALL: Best of 3 short sets, Best of 3 full sets [optional match tie break to10 points]

4 Mini Tennis Ratings System 4321 RED Play 6 matches Play 30 matches Play 40 matches win 20 against level 1&2 players From this level players move to Orange 4 [not Orange 2] ORANGE Play 6 matches Play 20 matches Play 30 matches win 15 against level 1&2 players From this level players move to Green 2 GREEN Play 6 matches Play 20 matches Play 30 matches win 15 against level 1&2 players From this level players move to full ball

5 Mini Tennis Ratings Answers to frequently asked questions CLUB LOGO -To record a win for ratings players must be level 1 or 2 and their results must be against other level 2 or level 1 players – Level 3 and 4 results only count to participation. -Only matches registered with county office count -To move from Orange 4 to Orange 1 you need to have played at least 56 matches -We aim for results to be on the LTA website a week after the event

6 LEADERBOARDS  In operation for all mini tennis age groups  All club and premier tour events count towards a players leaderboard total  The leaderboard is updated every two weeks on the Warwickshire website – www.warwickshiretennis.net

7 Ratings & Ranking After Mini Tennis Ratings Every player will be given a rating as long as they are signed up to British Tennis Membership To increase rating a player needs to: 10.2/10.1 – win four matches, send in completed results card and rating will increase straight away 9.2 onwards - have 7 qualifying wins and a 60% win loss ratio. Ratings change every 6 months, however, there is now a 3 month mid season ratings run. Current ratings run ends on 28 th March 2010, mid season ratings run will be on 13 th December 2009. CLUB LOGO

8 Ratings & Ranking After Mini Tennis Rankings Rankings operate in U12, U14, U16, U18, Open & Veterans age groups Updated every 2 weeks on the LTA website The higher the grade of tournament the more ranking points a player will receive. Based on best 6 tournaments over the last 12 months Entry into tournaments is based firstly on the players rating and then the players ranking CLUB LOGO

9 HOW CAN YOUR CHILD COMPETE?  Representing the club in inter club matches Mini Tennis Leagues AEGON Team Tennis  Many clubs run open events that any player can enter, cost is minimal and the minimum number of matches you can expect to play would be: RED - 4 ORANGE - 3 GREEN- 2 FULL BALL- 2 All these events are advertised at:  www.lta.org.uk/competitions in the Competition Year Book www.lta.org.uk/competitions  Put the County Closed in your diary the major event of the year  To increase competition it is possible to enter events in nearby counties, all promoted in the Competition Year Book At nearby clubs

10 CLUB LOGO HOW CAN YOUR CHILD COMPETE?  Organised competition during coaching sessions or club night. Results played in the correct format are registered for participation  Club organised tournaments / events e.g. Club Championship, Box leagues  Organised sessions by parents – get a group of players together for a fun afternoon’s tennis and all results can be registered  If players play out of their colour level the result only counts for the eligible player - i.e. a Green player may play Orange but will not register as a results for the green player At the Club

11 CLUB LOGO British Tennis Membership British Tennis Membership [BTM] All Players need to sign up to BTM which can be done on line at www.lta.org.uk www.lta.org.uk Match results can then be registered and players will receive a rating and their own player profile on the LTA website

13 WARWICKSHIRE S.M.I.L.E. CAMPAIGN  We want all players to enjoy competing it is therefore important that playing is fun. Parents can help by:  Placing greater emphasis on playing and enjoying rather than winning  Finding out what the player learnt rather than telling them what they did wrong  NEVER getting involved in the match  Avoid showing any emotion other than positive clapping for both players

14 CLUB LOGO How can parents help at their club?  Manage a team  Support at club competitions [help with catering etc]  Attend a competition organisers course to learn how to run competitions and receive all the resources to do this. [3 hours open to anyone over 16+]  Older players may wish to take the Tennis Leaders Competition module to assist at the club  Attend a referee training course [2 days 6 months apart with work experience]

15 CLUB LOGO What we run AT LEAMINGTON:  Mini Tennis Club Night (5-10yrs) on Fridays @ 4-30 - 6-00  Junior Club Night (10-17yrs) on Tuesdays @ 4-15 – 6-15  Internal Junior Box Leagues  Club teams all age groups  Open / Closed Competitions – calendar available
