Mise-en-scene Toby Adshead

Mise-en-scene clip 3 The Mise-en-scene in this scene has a lot lighting involved you can see this by the shadows all around the character. The green also gives an effect to the hospital it gives a contrast which is sort of an unwelcome color and the shadow that is surrounding her. Another part of lighting is when Jessica blows out the candles this photo looks warm and soothing it looks like a good place to be, this is because the whole background is blurred and blacked out and the candle effect makes the place where Jessica is more comfortable. Lighting is also used in part of the scene where the character Sarah comes back in to reality you can see this because every where is light up and everything it bright and white. Her sort of nightmare disappears when she is reunited with her friend.

Location The location of both of these are in same place however the lighting makes the place look completely. They are both based in a hospital hallway but because she has just come out of sleeping she is not back in to reality yet. The color radically changes in the matter of a couple of seconds and the audience feels a lot safer when she bumps in to Beth.

Costume In the scene you see the character in a hospital gown this shows that she was effected by the car crash and that is the reason she is wearing it. The gown also adds effect to show that even though she escapes dyeing in the car crash she gets harmed. The costume helps us to fill in the links on what actually happened in the car crash. The other costumes people are wearing in the back ground shows that the character is back in reality and life is going on as normal

Props The heart beat monitor points out what is actually going on when she wakes up it is the first loud noise you hear and it’s a shocking sound which the audience isn't accustom. The sudden noise helps to remind the audience about the car crash that happened recently In the film. The cake in the film represents comfort this is because the cake gives of a warm light and makes the woman feel at home, however the cake also gives of a bad atmosphere and sort of shows that this picture is always in Sarah head almost like it is haunting her.

Sound The heart beat monitor is the first thing the character hears and this sets the tone for the rest of the hospital scene the majority of the scene is diegetic because the sound is coming from things such as the heart beat monitor and the noises of the lights turning off. The only non diegetic sound is the music playing in the back ground which adds the tension for the scene.
