1 The road Mise en scene Camera work/ editing sound Post modern elements The sound in the road is calm and smooth this contrasts with the things happing on the scene. The sound is accompanied by a voice over of the father this helps the viewer get an in sight to the film and what he is like so therefore makes a connection making the viewer want to see the film. He says ‘the world is getting colder, the world is dying’ this gives context to the audience and they get to grips with how the world is now and what they need to do to survive. The mise en scene in the road mostly consist of worn out clothes, fire, guns, food, bullets and skulls. The worn out clothes show that it has been a long time after the event has happened and that they have been though a lot. The fire and torn down buildings show the viewer that society has been broken and is no more. The road uses the gun and bullets almost a temptation in the way that they could just end it and be free from the world but because of this it shows the determination of the father who will never give up. Food is only shown a little this conveys that there is no food except other people. The skulls show the viewer humans brutal nature and the lengths anyone will go through to survive in the post apocalyptic world. The camera work in the road trailer uses lots of close up shots of the farther and son to show the bond they have and to show the viewer the fathers protection of the boy. They also use a lot of landscape shot to show the audience the mass destruction of the event and the toll it has taken on the world. The editing is slow to show that its not all about the action but also about telling the long journey at the boy and father take to get to the sea but it is also fast in some parts to heighten the viewers suspense when the boy and father are in trouble. The road has a challenging narrative because of the message of the environment and how we shape are world and this is a very big issue. Also the way they show the kid and the father going through horrific places such as the human farming place which hard to watch as a viewer. http://www.y outube.com/ watch?v=M8 RuQrhVBvo

2 28 days later Mise en scene Camera work/ editing sound Post modern elements The 28 days later the key mise en scene are blood, hospital equipment and fire. The blood shows the viewer the devastation and brutality of the situation of the infection and draws them in to find out how it got like that. The fire conveys anarchy and loss of society as a whole and what the infection has done to Britain. The hospital equipment helps the viewer understand what the situation the main character is in and links to death because hospitals are where people die. The post modern elements of the 28 days later trailer are the fact that it casts a strong woman lead that helps the defenceless main character and trains him to become strong and to survive. In the 28 days later trailer they only use diegetic sounds from the film such as screaming and the shouts from the infected this makes the viewer feel uncomfortable because of the sound of death. There isn’t much camera work only small little clips from some scenes that express the sounds that you can hear. This is done well because it doesn’t give to much away therefore heightening the viewers interest to see the film. the editing is fast to make the viewer feel shocked and panicked about what they are seeing and hearing when they watch the trailer. In the 28 days later trailer they use lots of title to describe how the infection is spreading and giving the viewer an insight on how the event happened in the first place titles http://www.youtub e.com/watch?v=eu naclr-WgU http://www.youtub e.com/watch?v=eu naclr-WgU

3 Battle Royale Mise en scene Camera work/ editing sound Post modern elements The camera work is fast to make all the action seem more intense for the viewer. This involves lots of close up shots of people shooting and then wide shots so the viewer can get to grips with the surroundings and the location of were its set. The editing has put clips together which respond to the scene before to add a flow to the trailer. They have spend up the scenes within the trailer in time with the music to it seems more dramatic to the viewer. The trailer begins with the sound of the students talking and laughing, this contrasts with what the film is about and the scene that follow after. The music through out the film is classical this has been done so it clashes with what is happing in the trailer such as people killing each other and gives the viewer a dark and cold feeling and highlights how the film will turn out. The post modern elements in Battle Royale are the fact that they use strong female role through out the film and girls kill the some of the boys. In the battle royale trailer there are lots of guns, daggers and other weapons. They have done this to show how brutal it is on the island and what the film is about. There are other mise-en-scene such as school clothes and army uniform they have done this to make a contrast with the innocent school clothing with the hard and deadly looking army uniform. http://www.youtube.co m/watch?v=N0p1t- dC7Ko
