 Ancient Greek and Roman Buildings/Décor  Relief Carving: a sculpture which is created by carving away material or adding material to the top of a smooth surface. These reliefs rely on a base for support and are a combination of both three dimensional and two dimensional art forms.  They were popularly used along the walls of ancient Greek and Roman buildings. INSPIRATION

 Each of you will get a piece of clay and you will roll it out evenly and create a 5”x5” tile that is at least ½” thick.  After your flat tile is created, smooth out any rough spots and begin carving your design.  Your design can be of anything- it can be abstract, an animal, block letters, etc.  You can add clay to build areas up, and you can also carve away.  Timeline: 2 weeks. Projects must be finished by December 18 th at the latest. (see calendar on the art club website) PROJECT DESCRIPTION
