Welcome to Back to School Night AP World History *Do Now: Please sign-in! Target Objective: I will be able to identify general routines, expectations, and atmosphere of the AP classroom and by listening to an introductory power point. AGENDA: Welcome!!! Power Point Presentation Q/A  HOMEWORK : Have a great night!

Before the Course Overview…. Google Classroom: JOIN!  AP Period 1-2  Class code:  144raf  AP Period 3-4  Class code:  q5m67a

APWH Survey: Challenge Accepted! Congratulations & Welcome!  Meant to clarify the demands  Help you know what is expected  Help shape priorities  Confirm your commitment Yes No

We took the survey in class…  Page 3, Reference packet  If you answered “yes” honestly to AT LEAST 10 of the questions, you are ready to succeed in APWH.  If not, we need to talk!

What is the difference between AP and non-AP History courses? Academic/ Regular WH AP  More direct instruction  HW assigned regularly  collected for a grade  Course resembles traditional H.S. classes  NO college credit  NO end-of-year exam  Teacher is facilitator  HW assigned but not always collected  Expected to always be done  May be tested on material NOT specifically covered in class  College-level text  May receive college credit via AP Exam

Course Description – page 6  This is a survey of world history. It is organized into units that begin with pre-history and progress through the early 21 st century/ modern day.  In studying history, students will learn the geography of the world’s regions.  They will also begin to develop a cultural understanding through the social sciences of economics, political science, anthropology, and sociology.  A special effort will be made to connect history to current issues and events.  The goal is to enhance students’ awareness of the world and its complexity.

Grading Policy  Evaluations = 50%  At least two per quarter  Tests – M/C, written or combo; vocab; projects  Assessments = 40%  Chapter packets  Content-based quizzes  Practice = 10%  HW  CW

Class Expectations/ Routine  Check board upon entering – copy target/ “do now”  Sign-up for Remind!  Check out google classroom.  You are responsible for work / content missed.

Supplies  History binder  Text  Pen  Colored pencils  Highlighters  Post-its  #2 pencils  Decent eraser(s)

Recap… aka: did we hit our target?  Who should take AP?  Survey: what as the purpose?  What is the grading policy?  What is the general daily routine?  What supplies are needed?  What is the HW?  Hit or miss?  Anything else?!
