TECHNOLOGY USE AGREEMENT FOR STUDENTS GRADES 3-8 This presentation was created to help students understand the district’s Technology Use Agreement before signing. Created by Janice Gilmore-See

What is a TUA? T echnology U se A greement The TUA is an agreement that students and parents sign to make sure they use school technology tools   responsibly for learning activities.

Communicating What does the TUA cover?  Using Equipment  Going on the Internet Creating with technology tools

Signing your TUA If you sign the TUA, you are agreeing to use the school technology tools correctly and follow all rules. You will still need to get the TUA signed by your parent/guardian and return it to school.  If you do not sign the TUA, or if your parent/guardian does not sign the TUA, you will not be allowed to use the school technology tools.

All technologies are intended for educational purposes. TECHNOLOGY TOOLS ARE IN THE CLASSROOM AND LIBRARY TO HELP YOU LEARN. IF YOU AREN’T SURE IF SOMETHING IS OK, YOU SHOULD ASK FIRST.

Would you …  Borrow a friend’s bicycle without asking first?  Ride it in the middle of the street?  Take it apart if you thought it was broken or you wanted to keep something?  Add stickers or repaint it without asking?  Give it back to your friend broken?

The same rules apply to using technology at school Students are expected to:  Be safe  Be appropriate  Be careful  Be kind

KEEP PERSONAL INFORMATION PRIVATE Never share information about yourself on the Internet without adult permission. This includes your picture, your phone number, your school, your address, and your birthday. YUCK! If you ever see anything on the Internet that makes you uncomfortable or feel unsafe, push the back button and be sure to tell an adult right way.

Netiquette is using the Internet, network resources, and online sites in a courteous and respectful manner.

If a device isn’t working properly, be sure to tell your teacher. Students should report any loss, damage or malfunction immediately.

CYBERBULLYING will not be tolerated. Don’t be mean. Don’t send s or post comments that will scare, hurt or intimidate someone else. Harassing Dissing Flaming Put-downs Impersonating Outing Tricking Excluding

Remember! It’s not a secret. Your teacher, librarian, principal, and others can see what you do on the technology tools you are using. They can read your messages They can see where you visit on the Internet They can look at work you save They can see what you download They can read your messages They can see where you visit on the Internet They can look at work you save They can see what you download If you cause trouble with technology, your parents will be notified and shown what you did.

What are the rules? I will use school technologies for school related activities. I will follow the same guidelines for respectful, responsible behavior online that I am expected to follow off-line.

What are the rules? I will not damage, change, or tamper with the hardware, software, settings, or the network in any way. I will not seek, view, send, or display offensive messages or media.

What are the rules? I will obey copyright laws and properly cite sources when using online resources – I will not plagiarize. I will not share my passwords with another person. I will not harm other people or their work.

What are the rules? I will not trespass in another person’s folders, work, or files. I will not interfere with the operation of the network. I will not use my personal account or any personal electronic device at school except with the permission of the staff member.

What are the rules? I will notify an adult immediately if by accident I encounter materials which violate the rules of appropriate use. I will not use any form of electronic communication to harass, intimidate, or bully anyone.

What are the rules? I am prepared to be held accountable for my actions and for the loss of privileges if these rules are violated. I will treat blog and wiki spaces as I would a classroom space, and I will use appropriate and respectful languages and images.

What are the rules? I will act safely by keeping personal information out of my web projects. I will not give out my family name, address, home address, schools name, city, country or other information that could help someone locate or contact me in person. I will not post identifying photos or videos.

What are the rules? If I post a link in a blog, podcast, videocast or wiki, I will have read that information carefully to be certain that it is appropriate for the school community. I understand that if I fail to follow these guidelines I may lose the opportunity to take part in projects

Signing the technology agreement When you sign your TUA, you are agreeing that if you break any of these rules you will have a consequence and might not be able to use school technology anymore.

What you need to do: 1. Print your name on the form. 2. Sign your name under student signature. 3. Write your homeroom teacher’s name. 4. Put the grade you are in and the date you signed the document. 5. Have your parents review the document and sign it. 6. Bring the signed agreement back to school.

What if I don’t? We cannot allow you to use any form of district technology without a signed agreement. This includes use of your own personal devices while on campus. Remember, our number one concern is your safety.
