HEART LINE & SINKER Microsoft PowerPoint presentations on the heart created by 7th grade Language Arts classes Ms. Rine Everitt Middle School September 1998

Presentation Requirements  Students will work in groups to create a class PowerPoint presentation. They will use a rotation schedule to work on the computer.  Each class group has an 8 slide minimum. Each small group must create one slide.  Each slide must have at least one sound, one graphic, one transition, and one animation.

Teacher Preparations  Create desktop folders for each of the classes  Obtain diskettes for each of the classes  Create a desktop folder to store heart graphics videos, and wavs  Browse the internet and collect heart graphics, videos, and wavs and store them in designated folder  Prepare desk work for the students who are not on the computer since this is all being accomplished in a one computer classroom

Presentation Schedule  Students will follow a two week schedule for the creation of presentations.  Groups are designated by having students number off in numbers  Monday-teacher instruction of program; begin researching the heart and blood  Tuesday-continue research; rough draft of slides due  Wednesday through Wednesday-students work on Capitalization and Punctuation packets from textbook while small groups rotate on the computer to design slides

Introduction to the Heart and Blood This slide will contain an introduction to the heart and blood. For example, use information such as: “The heart is a pump. The heart is a muscle.” Slide 2

HEART COMPOSITION This slide requires a paragraph explaining the makeup of the heart. Then, 5 heart words should be defined and paraphrased by students. Slide 3

HEART RATE AND PULSE This slide will contain an explanation of heart rate and pulse. Length should run approximately one paragraph. Slide 4

HOW THE HEART BEATS & CIRCULATION OF THE BLOOD This is a one paragraph explanation of the two topics mentioned above. Slide 5

INTERESTING FACTS Five or more interesting facts about the heart. Slide 6

REFLECTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT This is an opinion slide. Students will evaluate using technology for this assignment. Students will evaluate using group work for this assignment. Slide 7

Conclusion Students will use one paragraph that will conclude the assignment. This final slide should reemphasize the importance of the heart and blood. Slide 8
