Animal Groups Classify Characteristics Parent and baby Life cycle How animals help people

Mammals A bear has fur as its covering. A bear is a mammal. Female mammals make milk for their babies. Mammals breathe with body parts called lungs.

FISH A fish has scales as a covering. Fish live in water. They breathe with body parts called gills. Fish have fins to move through the water. A fish gets food from its environment.

BIRDS Birds are the only animals with feathers. Birds have two wings and two legs. They also have beaks and lay eggs.

Amphibians Almost all amphibians begin their lives in water. They often have smooth, moist skin that helps them to live both in water and on land.

Reptiles have dry, scaly skin. Most reptiles lay eggs.

INSECTS Insects have three body parts and six legs. They have hard body covering. Their young hatch from eggs.
