Eric Erikson -Developmental Psychologist Made by Haotian, Aleeya, Riley

Erikson’s Theory Based off of Freud’s theory A psychosocial theory that expanded the picture of human development at each stage – Recognized the lifespan nature of development (birth to old age) – Takes into account the how the cultures of different people affect development

Major people involved Eric Erikson and Sigman Freud; Erikson’s Theory, based on/improved Freud’s work Born in Germany Developmental psychologist About Erikson:

Origin of Theory 1930s-40s Parents increasingly seeking professional help in dealing with emotional difficulties of children. Stage based theory Shows the stages of development people go through Stages are given definite lifespans ex: (0-1 year), (1-3 years)

Contributions to Society Based off Freud’s theory, had improvements – Freud’s theory overemphasizes influences of sexual feelings in development – Does not take into account different cultures/societies

Definitions Behaviorism: an approach that regards directly observable events –stimuli and responses- as the focus of study and that views the development of behavior as taking place through classical and operant conditioning. Social Learning Theory: An approach that emphasizes the role of modeling, or observational learning, in the development of behavior.
