Biology CP Mr. Gebhart

What is Biology?  Biology is the study of life  Different aspects of biology:  Cell structure and Function  Metabolism and homeostasis  Reproduction and heredity  Evolution  Ecology  Biology is a fast-paced class.

What does my student need to be prepared each day?  A writing utensil (black or blue pen or pencil)  A red pen for correcting  Lined paper for notes and classwork  Student planner  An open mind that is ready to learn!  Students do not need:  Their book

Class Procedure  Every day starts with the days agenda and any homework on the overhead.  Students are encouraged to write down each night’s homework in their student planner.  Students are expected to arrive at class on time.

Grading Policy  Tests = 20%  Assignments = 20%  Labs = 15%  Quizzes = 10%  Warm Ups = 10%  Midterm and Final = 25%

Late and Absent Work  Late work is accepted up to two weeks after the due date.  However, any late work will receive 70% of the points earned.  Students have the number of days equal to the length of their absence to make up work.  Certain projects are considered long term and must be turned in on the day due.

Retesting and Extra Credit  Students who do all the homework and classwork for the unit will receive extra credit on the test.  Students who score 70% or less on the test are able to make up the test.  Students will make corrections with the teacher and then retest.  Students will receive whatever score they get on the retest regardless of their original score.  Students cannot receive more than 75% on the retest.

Extra Help  I am often available after school or during lunch for student tutoring, but the student needs to arrange a time before coming in. 

What can parents do to help?  #1 thing a parent can do is make sure that students are completing homework in a timely manner.   Provide a good study environment free of distractions.  Above all, encourage students to succeed!
