MISSION We promote, support and advocate for the effective delivery of adult and family literacy services in Florida.

Training and Technical Assistance FLC offers professional development opportunities which provide literacy practitioners and volunteers with tools and resources to enhance program quality.

We have offered 20 training opportunities including: Multiple Intelligences in the Adult ESOL Classroom Reading Research Study Circe Understanding Learning Disabilities Family Literacy Job Site Instruction for Non-English Speaking Hospitality Workers Strategies and Resources for Teaching Adults with Learning Disabilities Getting and Keeping Students and Volunteers Health Literacy Promoting Your Program to the Hispanic and Haitian-Creole Communities

Promoting Student Involvement and Leadership Literacy Ambassador Training Program VALUE Core Leadership Training Adult Learner Day Student Essay Book

Supporting Volunteer Based Literacy 2 nd Annual Literacy Leadership Institute Tutor Training and Train the Trainer Workshops Florida Training Study Committee

Literacy Promotion and Toll Free Literacy Hotline FLC promotes reading and raises awareness about literacy issues in Florida. A trained referral specialist provides on call information about education programs and volunteer opportunities throughout the state. July-April, 2,272 referrals were made. TV Public Service Announcements Partnership with Dept. of Transportation Newspapers

Publications and Resources FLC provides a wide range of free reference and outreach materials, serving as a clearinghouse for the distribution of quality resource materials for literacy instructors and administrators.

Publications and Resources Continued… Forty different resources are available free through our Clearinghouse. During the last 10 months, over 54,200 resource materials have been distributed. Publications developed by the Florida Literacy Coalition include: The Florida Literacy Data and Statistics Reference Guide The Florida Literacy Directory and Resource Guide, 2004

Networking & Communications FLC promotes and facilitates information sharing, networking and collaborative programming among literacy providers. E-Literacy News The Literacy News Newsletter. Discussion Lists. Website: In partnership the National Institute for Literacy’s LINCS system. Last year, our site logged over 51,000 visitors.

Florida Literacy Conference One of Florida’s premier literacy events, this three day annual conference offers a wide range of training and networking opportunities to literacy practitioners and volunteers. Date: May 11-13, Florida Mall Hotel, Orlando Conference Theme: Open Books Open Minds
