VOLLEYBALL TERMINOLOGY

ROTATION Each time a team wins back the serve, all players of that team move one position in a clockwise position. The right front player takes the ball and goes to service position.

RECEIVE A SERVE Play the ball after it comes over the net from opposition serve.

DEFENSIVE Position to stop attack from opposition

SET BALL Push ball up using fingertips

SPIKE An attacking shot – ball to come down hard at an angle into opponents court

DRIVE Moving forward to “attack” ball

FREEBALL Loose ball

ATTACK When have possession of ball

SERVE Feed ball over net at start of play-over or underhand

OVERHAND TECHNIQUE Arm above head when contact ball

BLOCK Defence against spike –jump up to stop ball with two hands

TECHNIQUE The skills attached to the sport e.g. dig, set spike, block, serve
