Netiquette/Internet Safety Presentation VAHS Boys Swim Team

What is Netiquette? Netiquette is a set of rules for behaving properly online.

Ask Yourself... Would you say it to the person's face? If the answer is “No”, then you should not be saying on FaceBook, Twitter, Texts either.

Think about your future... College Admissions Officers Future Employers Voters (if you decide to run for public office) When you communicate through cyberspace -- via or on discussion groups -- your words are written. And chances are they're stored somewhere where you have no control over them. In other words, there's a good chance they can come back to haunt you.

Think about... Your use of language (profanity) Description of actions, photos, videos where you are in a compromising situation. Attacks aimed towards others.

What is Cyberbullying? Creating websites to make fun of another person such as a classmate or teacher Using websites to rate peers as prettiest, ugliest, etc. Physical threats, spreading rumors, sending unflattering pictures.

VASD Acceptable Use Policy Users will not engage in cyber bullying. “Cyber bullying” includes, but is not limited to the following misuses of technology: harassing, teasing, intimidating, threatening or terrorizing another person by sending or posting inappropriate and hurtful messages, instant messages, text messages, digital pictures or images or video, or Web site postings that are materially or substantially disruptive or violate Board Policy. In situations in which the cyber bullying originated from a non-school computer or other communication device such as a cell phone and is brought to the attention of school officials, any disciplinary action taken shall be based upon whether the conduct is determined to be substantially disruptive of the educational process so that it markedly interrupts or substantially impedes the day-to-day operations of a school.
