EXAMINATION GUIDELINES: Purpose: to provide depth and scope of content to be addressed in grade 12 Assist educators to prepare learners Format of end-of-year paper Relevant sections of CAPS for the subject which have a direct effect on the setting of paper Degrees of challenge Were the guidelines used last year?

SBA: A TICKING TIME-BOMB SBA marks versus written exam mark – correlation! false expectations created resulting process – scramble for marks Systemic effects of non-submission of SBA marks: 1 – 10 candidates doing a subject – and if even one without SBA marks: all candidates not resulted 11 – 12 candidates doing subject, at least 10 marks must be in, or all 12 not resulted 12+ candidates doing subject - 80% of marks must be in or all not resulted

SBA: A TICKING TIME-BOMB If required number not met – results in the subject will not be available Impact of incomplete results in subjects: result of school cannot be calculated: Bachelors, Higher Certificate and Diploma, % pass of school and district/province Setting up learners for failure – example…

SBA: A TICKING TIME-BOMB  Presentation of reports at MANCO for discussion  Implementation of progression policy in FET Phase  learners progressed from Grade 11 to Grade 12 in 2014 in six districts  Bachelors – 47  Diploma – 217  Higher Certificate – 284  Not Achieved –  Incomplete Results – 177  Applied for remark - 11

CONCLUSION Analysis and statistical data from tests – what do data say to us? Have you interrogated your previous tests against data/results produced? How do your test results inform teaching and learning? How do your test results inform interventions?
