Key Terms Touchdown Pass Reception Tackle Hike Line of Scrimmage Huddle Fumble Interception Completion/Incomple tion Down Kickoff Punt Field goal Turnover

Hike The word used to snap the ball and begin the offensive play.

Touchdown A score, worth six points, that occurs when a player in possession of the ball crosses the plane of the opponent's goal line.

Pass/Completion When the quarterback throws the ball forward to another offensive player.

Incompletion A forward pass that falls to the ground because no receiver could catch it. Or a dropped pass.

Turnover When the team on offense loses possession of the ball.

Interception A pass that's caught by a defensive player.

Huddle When the 11 players on the field gather together to discuss strategy between plays.

Line of Scrimmage An imaginary line that extends from where the football is placed at the end of a play Neither the offense nor the defense can cross the line until the football is hiked.

Tackle When a defensive player brings down an offensive player to the ground.

Fumble When the offensive player loses the football after having full control of it.

Down and Distance Down: The number of chances the offensive team has to get a first down or touchdown. Distance: the amount of yardage to gain a first down.

Kickoff When the offensive team kicks the football to the opposing team after a score.

Punt When the offensive team kicks the football to the opposing team on 4 th down or after a safety.

Fieldgoal When the offensive team kicks the ball between the uprights on the fieldgoal posts. Fieldgoal is worth 3 points.

Exit Slip How does down and distance work? What is it called when your QB passes the ball and the receiver catches it? How does a defensive player make a tackle in flag football? Analyze the difference between a punt and a field goal?
