SRTC HISTORY SUBCOMMITTEE Solid Rocket Hall Of Fame –Approved Concept at 2008 JPC Need to Solicit Applications Need Selection Committee Coordinate with Awards Committee Lifetime Achievement Award Video Archive Conversion of 16mm and Tape to DVD Archive 16mm Film

Proposal for AIAA/SRTC Solid Rocket Motor Hall of Fame The History Sub-Committee of the AIAA/SRTC proposes the establishment of a Solid Rocket Motor Hall of Fame. The purpose of this Hall of Fame would be to honor those individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the solid rocket motor community either over a sustained period of time or by a singular accomplishment which had a significant impact in the area of solid rocket motor propulsion. This proposal is for a virtual Hall of Fame which would exist as a part of the AIAA/SRTC website.

Proposal for AIAA/SRTC Solid Rocket Motor Hall of Fame Individuals from industry, academia and government agencies would be eligible for inclusion in the Hall of Fame. U.S. and non- U.S. citizens, who are living or deceased would be eligible for nomination to the Hall of Fame. Induction into the Hall of Fame would take place on an annual basis and would usually be done at the Joint Propulsion Conference each year. Those inducted into the Hall of Fame would be recognized at the Joint Propulsion Conference. Plaques would be presented to the individuals and/or their families along with a duplicate plaque presented to the company/institution or organization with which they are associated. In addition, their names, photos and a description of their contribution(s) to the solid rocket motor community would be permanently placed on the AIAA/SRTC website.

Proposal for AIAA/SRTC Solid Rocket Motor Hall of Fame Contributions in the areas of technology as well as management would be considered in the selection process. Examples of technical contributions would include but not be limited to work in basic and/or applied research design, development, testing and manufacturing of solid rocket motors. Examples of management contributions would include but not be limited to successful management of major rocket motor programs, organizations and laboratories in industry, academia and government including those individuals responsible for the formation of solid rocket motor companies.

Proposal for AIAA/SRTC Solid Rocket Motor Hall of Fame A call for nominations would be made at each Joint Propulsion Conference and on the AIAA/SRTC web site. Nominations would be in the form of a letter of nomination describing why the individual should be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This letter would include a summary of the major accomplishments of the individual being nominated. Documentation supporting the nomination would also be supplied by the nominator along with at least three, but no more than five additional letters supporting the nomination. It will be the responsibility of the person making the nomination to secure the letters of support and forward them along with their letter of nomination and documentation to the Hall of Fame selection committee. The nomination packages would be due by the end of each calendar year. The membership of the selection committee will be established by the SRTC and may include members not on the SRTC. Documentation supporting an individual’s contributions could be in the form of a listing of major awards, inventions, patents, publications, management responsibilities and accomplishments and service to professional organizations which support the solid rocket motor community.

Proposal for AIAA/SRTC Solid Rocket Motor Hall of Fame It is recommended that the initial class consist of from five to seven inductees and that those selected be inducted at the 2009 JPC. It is further suggested that at least two or three of the inductees be retired and/or deceased. For years following the initial induction it is recommended that the number of inductees be limited to three per year.
