What is a Manatee? A manatee is a mammal.

Where Do Manatees Live? They live in warm, shallow water around the world. They live around the Caribbean Islands and parts of Florida. Manatees have to live in warm places because if it gets to cold they stop eating and get sick.

What Do Manatees Eat? Manatees eat water plants like mangrove leaves, turtle grass, and types of algae because they are herbivores. Manatees eat more than 100 pounds of water plants a day. Because of this, their teeth wear down, so their teeth fall out and new teeth grow in.

Fun Facts About Manatees  The manatee weighs more than 1,000 pounds  The manatee is related to the elephant family  The manatee is also called a “sea cow”
