Presentation transcript:

The problem Every day 29,800,000 of trees are cut down every day in the world acres of forest getting cut down per day. An American Football field measures 1.32 acres. When more trees we cut down the faster deforestation contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Why do we plant trees The benefits of trees can be grouped into social, communal, environmental, and economic categories. All Plants Absorb Carbon Dioxide, but Trees are Best While all living plant matter absorbs CO2 as part of photosynthesis, trees process significantly more than smaller plants Tree has much more “woody biomass” to store CO2 than smaller plants, and as a result are considered nature’s most efficient “carbon sinks.”

Environmental Benefits Trees are the lungs of the planet. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. They provide habitat for birds and other wildlife. Trees reduce urban runoff and erosion by storing water and breaking the force of rain as it falls. Trees also absorb sound and reduce noise pollution.

Economic Benefits The shade created by planting a healthy tree is equivalent to 10 room-size air conditioners running 20 hours a day. Heating costs are reduced when a home has a windbreak. Trees can significantly increase your property values.

Social Benefits Trees make life more pleasant. We feel serene, peaceful, restful, and tranquil in a grove of trees. Hospital patients have been shown to recover from surgery more quickly when their hospital room offered a view of trees.

How to save the world by planting trees Plant trees when you travel. 1 tree every 2,000 miles (3200 km) by car 1 tree every 1300 miles (2000 km) by plane 1 tree every 100 gallons (375 liters) of gasoline Save old-growth forests, cut sustainably
