 Forensic pathologists are medical professionals who specialize in pathology, which is the study of diseases in the body. They are the mix of a doctor and detective. They work with legal and crime departments to help find out the cause of death, such as cases of murder. The end result that forensic pathologists are trying to achieve is solving a criminal case through the judicial process. I am interested in this because I love mysteries. I like to search and think outside of the box to figure something out.

1. Values- communication skills, outgoing, energetic, dedicated, can’t be faint hearted, the mind of a detective. 2. Tasks and responsibilities- need to be able to use all the available information to determine the cause and manner of death they’re performing the autopsy on. Some types of investigations that a forensic pathologist will do on a body include toxicologic, microscopic, photographic, radiologic, serologic and microbiologic studies. The workdays are mostly repetitive. They do autopsies and sometimes write reports or show in court. This is a high pressured job. The work is both physical and mental. 3. Data, People-Things- A forensic pathologist works with data, people, and things. They use data that they get to help figure out how and what exactly happened and who it is. They work with people because they perform autopsies. They work with things because of all the tools and equipment they need. 4. Work Environment- Forensic pathologists are required to work in a big range of situations. Most will spend their days in the lab, others will be out visiting crime scenes and others will be acting as expert witnesses in criminal and civil court cases around the country. They are required in state, local and federal governments as well as in medical offices, hospitals, universities, police departments. 5. Working Hours- The hours that forensic pathologists work depends on where they work. Some offices will have a lot more to do, particularly in the bigger cities. It will also depend on how many forensic pathologists are working in each office and how well the work can be spread out between them. Many of them work normal hours, 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday. However, those that work in private crime laboratories often have longer working hours. Many also work on crime scenes which can require them to be on call 24 hours a day.

Aptitudes and Abilities-Forensic scientists should be detail-oriented, deep thinkers, willing to spend many hours at crime scenes and crime labs, examining and testing many types of evidence, they should have intellectual curiosity, they should have personal integrity, and should not have criminal records. 7. Education and Training- the qualifications and requirements of a forensic pathologist vary between states and countries. In general, all forensic pathologists must first become qualified medical doctors and then must specialize in pathology. In the USA, you must complete four years of college, followed by four years of medical school to get a doctor of medicine degree. You must then do four or five years of residency. You will then be eligible to take the Board exams in pathology. After you have passed these exams, you must then do 1 or 2 years of a forensic pathology fellowship, after which you can sit the specific forensic pathology Board exams. 8. Salary and Benefits- Forensic pathologists with 10 to 19 years of experience have a salary range of $122,500 to $199,500. Those working for the state and local governments have a salary range of $72,400 to $155,500. Those in medical services have a salary range of $45,500 to $135,000, while those in hospitals have a range of $42,000 to $120,000. Californian forensic pathologists have a salary range of $91,600 to $196,500. On the opposite coast, forensic pathologists living or working in New York have a salary range of $70,000 to $185,000. Some benefits are paid holidays and vacations, as well as paid sick leaves, which are definite pluses. A forensic pathologist may also receive a 401k matching, life and/or disability insurance, malpractice and/or liability insurance and a cell phone allowance. If they're lucky, a forensic pathologist may be offered flex-time or a flexible schedule. 9. Career Outlook- Due to the popularity and interest in forensic science careers and crime scene investigation jobs, it is likely that there will be a lot of competition over the next few years. Although there are private forensic scientist jobs, over 80 percent of the jobs in the field are governmental positions. Florida and California are the largest employers of forensic scientists. 10. International Career Outlook-Forensic science is one of the most popular career fields in America today, and forensic science jobs are definitely on the rise. The forensic science salary is a competitive one, and the job outlook for forensic careers is extremely positive. Forensic science is one of the fastest growing areas of employment in the United States.

 The type of lifestyle that a forensic pathologist has depends on the salary. The average salary is $169,000 a year. With that salary I would be considered upper middle class. That lifestyle would be living comfortably, you wouldn’t have to worry about saving all of your money just to pay bills and make ends meet. You would be able to do everything you need to plus pay for extra activities. You would be able to afford a new modern house and drive a new car. This is a lifestyle I would like to live. Being a forensic pathologist you should live in a big city or near a big city because that’s where all the jobs will be located. The three cities that are most popular for this job are New York City being the most popular, then Los Angeles, California, and then Houston, Texas. In order to be successful and to increase your chances in getting this job; moving to one of those cities would be a great idea. This job falls under the health and science category.

 An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor who cares for a patient before, during and right after a surgical or medical procedure by giving the patient appropriate anesthesia and monitoring them for reactions and complications, and to ensure comfort and manage pain. They meet with the patient before the procedure to evaluate the patient's condition and to go over their medical history. They also explain the process so the patient knows what to expect. During the procedure, they monitor the patient's vital signs and comfort and makes the appropriate adjustments in anesthesia. Following the procedure, the anesthesiologist continues to monitor the patient's vitals and may be involved in management of pain. This job interest me because I like to help people and I think I would make people feel comfortable before they go into their procedure.

They work with data because it has everything you need to know about the patient, they work with people because they are the patients, and they work with things because they have many tools so can do their job. 4. Work Environment- An anesthesiologist’s work environment would be in doctor offices and hospitals. 5. Working Hours- Working hours would be very irregular because surgeries happen around the clock. They have very long shifts and are needed for long periods of time.

Education and Training- You need to attend a four year undergraduate program, and you should enroll in a pre-medicine or other science field even though its not required. Following graduation, they are required to attend four years of medical school where they generally spend the first two years building on basic sciences and the second two in clinical training. Upon graduation from medical school, an anesthesiologist must spend one year in an internship and three more years in a residency program. 8. Salary and Benefits- The salary can be anywhere from $103,112 - $402,733, but the average pay is $269,406. It also depends on the city you live in and how experienced you are. The benefits are many will fund a personal retirement fund or IRA as part of their long term financial planning. 9. Career Outlook- Employment is projected to grow 18 percent from 2012 to Job growth will occur because of the continued expansion of healthcare-related industries. 10. International Career Outlook- The job outlook for anesthesiologists is very good. As the growing population seems to always need medical professionals, job growth for anesthesiologists is expected to increase 10% to 20% over the next decade. With huge big advancements being made in technological equipment, they will be able to perform more complex procedures and their role may expand.

That lifestyle would be living without having to worry about saving all of your money just for bills. You wouldn’t have to worry about what you can afford. You'd be able to live in a new house, drive a new car and you'd be able to pay for whatever you need and want. You would be living comfortably. This would be a lifestyle I would like to live. For this job it doesn’t really matter where you live because all around the country and this whole world they need anesthesiologists.
