Pinterest Project The Fault in Our Stars Project

1 st Step Choose Hazel or Augustus as your character for your Pinterest Project

2 nd Step Make a Pinterest account. You must make a new account even if you already have one. Your First name is your actual first name Your last name is the FIRST THREE letters of your last name Your is your first name, the first three letters of your last name

2 nd Step (cont.) Your password will be your first name, the first three letters of your last name and bhs (if it says it’s too weak, add the number 1) (justinbeibhs) all lower case Check your gender UNCHECK the “Let Pinterest” box Sign up and go through the “tour”

3 rd step Click to edit your profile

3 rd Step (cont.) Change your picture to a symbol that REPRESENTS YOU (not the character) DO NOT post an actual photo of you. Explain how this photo is a symbol of you. Look at the Justin Bei example online. In the location box put either Hazel or Augustus. Leave the website box blank.

4 th Step Over the course of the next few weeks, you will need to create 5 BOARDS which at least 5 pins on each board. The boards can be named anything you like as long as you think it would be something Hazel or Augustus would choose. You are choosing pins based on their interests (not yours). Include a brief description of the board (3-5 sentences). Category is optional.

4 th Step Explained When you find something to pin to your board, you will need to include a quote from the book that would PROVE that your character would like/choose this pin. You will need to type the quote into the comment box in this format: “Whenever you read a cancer booklet or website or whatever, they always list depression among the side effects of cancer. But, in fact, depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect of dying” (1.3). Notice the 1 is the chapter and the 3 is the page number. Also notice where the period is and where the quotations marks are. The quotes can be from the character themselves or from something another character said about them. Under the quote you need to explain the context of the quote and explain how this defines that character. YOU are writing this as a character analyst. Do not write it as though you are the character. You are you, but also keep in mind you shouldn’t use first person!

Example

Notice! Notice I had to shorten the quote a little bit. Again, you have a character limit, so you will have to work within that. Think of ways to shorten the quote FIRST, only keeping the pertinent parts. If you need help with this, let me know! Keep your responses concise. Notice I didn’t say short. Make sure you make your point, but in as few words as necessary. Again, if you need help with this, let me know.

Remember Remember that you will have 5 boards, with 5 pins per board. You should have roughly 7-9 pins from chapters 1-8, 7-9 pins from chapters 9-16, and 7-9 pins from chapters Your collection of boards/pins should represent the entire book
