TUA for Primary Students This presentation was created to help students in Preschool – Grade 2 understand our district’s Technology Use Agreement before signing. Created by Janice Gilmore-See

What is a TUA? T echnology U se A greement The TUA is an agreement that students and teachers sign to make sure they use the school technology tools   responsibly for learning activities.

Would you … Borrow a friend’s tricycle without asking first? Ride it in the middle of the street? Take it apart if you thought it was broken or you wanted to keep something? Add decorations without asking? Give it back to your friend broken?

Before you can borrow school technology… you must sign that you understand and will follow rules about: Getting permission first Using it safely Using it the right way Give it back so it will work for the next person Telling an adult if something is wrong

Communicating What does the TUA cover? Using Equipment Going on the Internet Creating with technology tools

Signing your TUA If you sign the TUA, you are agreeing to use the school technology tools correctly and following all rules. You will still need to get the TUA signed by your parent/guardian and return it to school. If you do not sign the TUA, or if your parent/guardian does not sign the TUA, you will not be allowed to use the school technology tools.

Remember! It’s not a secret. Your teacher, librarian, principal, and their bosses can see what you do on the technology tools you are using. Read your messages Where you visit on the Internet Work you save What you download Read your messages Where you visit on the Internet Work you save What you download

TECHNOLOGY TOOLS ARE IN THE CLASSROOM TO HELP YOU LEARN. IF YOU AREN’T SURE IF SOMETHING IS OK, YOU SHOULD ASK FIRST. BE CAREFUL! You are expected to treat all technology very, very carefully. If it isn’t working, be sure to tell your teacher. WRITING MESSAGES Your teacher may let you to send a message to her/him or a friend in the classroom using a computer or iPod. You should always write messages that are polite and use language that is appropriate. Never send a message to someone on the Internet unless your parent or teacher knows about it and gives you permission.

TELLING OTHERS ABOUT YOU Never share information about yourself on the Internet without adult permission. This includes your picture, your phone number, your school, your address, and your birthday. Icky! If you ever see anything on the Internet that makes you uncomfortable or feel unsafe, push the back button and be sure to tell an adult right way. CYBERBULLYING Bullying is hurting or scaring other people. Cyberbullying is when you use technology to hurt or scare other people. Cyberbullying is not OK. Never send a message or picture to scare or hurt someone. You can get into serious trouble for using technology to bully. If you ever see a message or picture that looks or feels like bullying, tell an adult right away.

What are the rules?  I will use school technology only for educational (learning) purposes.  I will only work on the programs and apps that my teacher tells me to use.  I will treat everyone nicely when I’m using technology.  I will treat technology careful and do my best to be sure nothing gets broken.  I will not share my passwords with another person.

What are the rules?  I will not harm other people or their work.  I will tell an adult right away if I see anything that breaks these rules.  I will not use technology to hurt, scare, or bully anyone.  I will act safely by never sharing personal information on the Internet.  I will not send messages to someone I don’t know. When you sign your TUA, you are agreeing that if you break any of these rules you will have a consequence and might not be able to use school technology anymore.

What you need to do: 1.Sign the agreement when you understand it. 2.Get your parent or guardian to sign the agreement. 3.Bring the signed agreement back to school.
