JFK BY JOHN LOCKER

MAY 29 TH, 1917 John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born. He was the second oldest of nine children born to Joseph and Rose Kennedy.

1936 Jack enrolls at Harvard University following the footsteps of his older brother Joe. He was extremely competitive with his brother, who was clearly his fathers favorite.

1940 After graduating from Harvard, Jack signs up for the Navy following once again in his older brothers footsteps

1943 Jack is awarded the Purple Heart for his role in saving many of his crew members lives when his boat was sunk by a Japanese destroyer.

AUGUST 12 TH, 1944 Jack’s older brother Joe dies when his airplane explodes. This is a huge turning point in his life. His father had always planned for Joe to go into politics, but now it was up to Jack to fulfill his fathers dreams.

1946 Jack is elected to the U. S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts and begins his promising political career.

1952 Jack is elected to the U.S. Senate. He’s becoming very popular with people of the United States with his easy going personality and compassion.

SEPTEMBER 12 TH, 1953 Jack and Jacqueline Bouvier marry in Newport, Rhode Island. His wife Jackie becomes an icon to the American people for her beauty and grace. They become the perfect power couple in politics.

After experiencing many ailments during his childhood and sports playing days, he undergoes two dangerous back surgeries. These surgeries almost killed him, but during his recovery he writes a book called “ Profiles in Courage”. The book was about valiant U.S. senators and wins a Pulitzer Prize.

NOVEMBER 27 TH, 1957 Jack and Jackie’s first child, Caroline was born.

NOVEMBER 8 TH, 1960 Jack is the youngest person ever to be elected President of the United States. He defeats republican candidate Richard M. Nixon.

NOVEMBER 25 TH, 1960 Jack’s son John F. Kennedy, Jr. is born.

1961 Soon after becoming president, he creates the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps was a government run volunteer program that sent Americans to help others in poor countries. He also is responsible for the forming of the Navy S.E.A.L.S.

APRIL 17 TH, 1961 Jack authorizes the “Bay of Pigs”. This was an invasion into Cuba to overthrow the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. The operation is a huge failure as Castro defeats the mission within three days.

OCTOBER 16 TH, 1962 The U.S. learns the Soviet Union are building nuclear weapons in Cuba. This leads to a huge confrontation between the U.S. and the Soviet Union later known as the “ Cuban Missile Crises”

AUGUST 5 TH, 1963 The United States, the Soviet Union, and the United Kingdom sign the “Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty” after eight years of tough negotiations known as the Cold War.

NOVEMBER 22ND, 1963 President Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas Texas. He was known to be one of the most like presidents of all time. He was very helpful with civil rights and the treating of each person fairly.

NOVEMBER 25 TH, 1963 JFK is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington Virginia.
