Grapevine Middle School “Encouraging Students to Realize Their Potential”

Required All 7 th graders are required to take a FULL YEAR Physical Activity class in 7 th grade.

Physical Activity for 7 th graders You have two choices for your physical activity class in 7 th grade: Athletics (Boys/Girls) Physical Education, typical physical activities including stretching and running

7 th Grade Athletics for Boys Everyone Plays Football- No Cut Sport BasketballTrack Cross Country Tennis

7 th Grade Athletics for Girls Everyone Plays Volleyball- No Cut Sport BasketballTrack Cross Country Tennis

Tell me more about 7 th grade Athletics: You learn the basic fundamentals of each sport. You must participate in a minimum of two (2) sports- one each semester. two (2) sports- one each semester. Tryouts may be necessary. You MUST HAVE a physical exam by your doctor, insurance and your parent’s permission. Practice this year was very early every morning before school…..How early? Pony athletes must be dressed and ready to go at 6:45am! When your sport is not in season you participate in an INTENSIVE off-season conditioning program.

7 th grade Athletics information continued: No Pass-No Play No Pass-No Play A lack of game and practice attendance can result in dismissal from the team. Poor sportsmanship will result in dismissal from the team and possible failure in class. Athletics involves lots of travel to different schools. This is a FULL YEAR COMMITMENT!!! SWEAT AND LOTS OF RUNNING IS A PART OF THE ATHLETICS RIGOR!

Some questions to consider if you are thinking about Athletics…. If you do not make the basketball team, are you prepared to run Cross-Country (Competitive LONG distance running) on the Cross Country Team? Are the hours required to participate going to adversely affect grades in my other classes? How will the long hours after school affect my free time and my family? Are you and your family willing to commit the time and energy necessary to be successful? And………

One more caution………. DO YOU LOVE TO RUN ??? If not………think long and hard before making this YEAR LONG COMMITMENT (36 WEEKS…nearly 10 MONTHS!) (36 WEEKS…nearly 10 MONTHS!) to ATHLETICS!!! to ATHLETICS!!!
