The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky The book The Perks of Being a Wallflower was published in 1999 by MTV. A film version was created in 2012.

What it's about - The Perks of Being a Wallflower describes serious topics in the life of an adolescent's first year in high school.

Characters Charlie – Charlie is 15 and has just started his life as a high schooler. He soon realizes he is a wallflower. Sam – Sam is 18 and is Patrick's step-sister. She is Charlie's main love interest. Patrick – Patrick is Sam's step-brother.

Summary The book is about fifteen-year-old Charlie's adolescent journeys through his first year in high school. He is trying to deal with the suicide of his former best friend and decides to write to a stranger he had heard of that had a good reputation. Charlie's first friend is also his english teacher, Bill. He overcomes his shyness and decides to talk to his soon to be best friends, Sam and Patrick. Charlie starts to experiment with drugs and alchohol although he soon stops. Charlie's family has a dark secret about him which he finds out about at the end of the story.

Excerpt When we got out of the tunnel, Sam screamed this really funny scream, and there it was. Downtown. Lights on buildings and everything makes you wonder. Sam sat down and started laughing. Patrick started laughing. I started laughing. And in that moment, i swear we were infinite. Love Always, Charlie
