Here is a story about Sam. When you finish the story you will be asked to draw some pictures about the story. Sam often got mad. He would get mad at his teacher, his classmates, other adults, and sometimes himself.

At the beginning of the year, Sam would yell at students if someone made him mad. But, as the year went on, he started pushing or hitting other students. He might push students if he wanted to be at the front of a line. Sam hit another student because he wouldn’t share a playground ball with him.

Sam’s teacher talked with him and tried to get Sam to stop hitting and pushing. But, Sam did not listen to her.

One day Sam was mad at Jon. Jon was playing on the piece of playground equipment that Sam wanted to use. So, Sam decided to push Jon off of the equipment. Jon fell off of the equipment and got hurt.

This time Sam got into really big trouble. He went to the principal’s office, his parents had to come to school, and he was suspended from school for three days. When Sam returned to school, the other students didn’t want to be near him. They didn’t want to work with him or sit with him at lunch or play with him at recess.

Sam became very unhappy. It was no fun not having any friends. He started seeing his school counselor. She taught him how to show his anger without hitting or pushing other students. She helped him practice ways to get along with his classmates.

But, Sam’s classmates were afraid that he would hurt them. With his school counselor’s help, Sam talked to his class. He told them that he was sorry that he hit and pushed them. Sam also said that he would not hit or push anymore. Sam’s classmates started sitting with him. playing with him at recess, and working on class projects with him.

Now you will be given a paper that looks like this. You need to draw a picture in each section. You will be asked to talk about your pictures. How did Sam feel when he was pushing and hitting other students? How did Sam’s classmates feel when Sam was hitting and pushing them? How did Sam feel after he learned how to control his anger and how not to hit? What will happen to you if you keep hitting and pushing other students?
