Egypt Today By: Edgar Romero Mrs. Harris 6 th period

Egypt’s history  Egypt’s history all started about 6,000 to 7,000 years ago, when people from the African savannah's moved to the Nile River.  King Djoser requested in 2667 B.C to a royal architect to build the step pyramid which was the first building made out of stone in the world.  Another historical event is the pyramid Taharqah was the last pyramid to be built which was built in 664 B.C.  Egypt was last colonized by the Great Britain and received their full independence in 1936 and they received their independence because Great Britain only wanted to control the Suez Canal and during World War1 the Suez canal was becoming inaccessible and trade their stopped so they left Egypt and let it have it’s independence.

Queen Cleopatra VII  Queen Cleopatra VII lived to the years 69 BC through 30 BC.  She was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty which ruled Egypt.  Cleopatra originally ruled Egypt with her father, later she ruled with her 2 brothers which she also married as a tradition. Then she ruled by herself. Later she made her son Caesar co-ruler.  She later met a man named Marc Anthony and had 3 children.  After Marc Anthony lost a war he committed suicide which caused Cleopatra to committee suicide as well.  As a result Caesar became Pharaoh and was later killed while under attack ad Egypt became a Roman Providence.  Queen Cleopatra VII was the last Pharaoh of Egypt

Egypt’s Culture  Early tribal people migrated to the Nile River and created an agricultural economy with a central government  The types of Egyptian instruments were recorders, clarinets, harps, flutes, and percussion instruments. They would play Arab, forms of Persian, and Indian music.  Some examples of traditional Egyptian foods are Kebda which is a fired liver with seasonings., another example is Bram rice which is a rick made from milk and is usually stuffed with chicken liver.

Egypt’s Religion  Egypt’s religions consist of 90% Muslim mainly Sunni Muslims, 9% Coptic, and 1% Christians.  Muslim is a monotheistic religion which means that they believe in only 1 god. Muslims believe in the teachings of Muhammad which is in The Koran.  Coptic is basically like Christians but they are native Egyptians they believe in 1god they believe in the teachings of Jesus which is also in the holy book The Bible.  Christianity is a monotheistic religion which only believe in one god. Christians believe in the teachings of Jesus and their sacred text is The Bible.

Egypt’s Economy  Egypt’s income comes mainly from agriculture, industry, and services. Some of their agricultural things are cotton, animals and fruits and vegetables. While in industries in Egypt could produce cement, metals and more. In 2010 Egypt’s GDP was $497.8 billion. In Egypt 9% of the people there are unemployed. In June of 2011 Egypt’s debt measured at $34.91 billion. Egypt's export partners are the U.S, Italy, India, Saudi Arabia, Spain, France, and Libya. While Egypt’s import partners are the U.S., China, Germany, Italy,, and Saudi Arabia.
