Classroom Project CAGS Workshop Alaska, 2007

Research/Education Needs to address –AIM, –CloudSat, –GLOBE –Education Standards –Your curriculum

Based on the GLOBE Student Research Format Propose a student/classroom research project –We encourage you to utilize AIM, CloudSat, and GLOBE data to help answer questions about how the environment around them works. –Through research projects, students do science, learning the importance of creating hypotheses, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and reporting their results. –Student Investigations are scientific projects conducted by students that include the use of AIM, CloudSat, or GLOBE data or protocols. –Your investigation report (with students) could be published on the GLOBE Web site, you are sharing your valuable findings with the rest of the world and completing the scientific process.

PPT Format (1 slide per bullet) Abstract Slide: Write a brief summary of the proposed project. Introduction, Research Question and Hypothesis: State the potential research problem/question and/or hypothesis. Explain what prompted the research, discussing the connection of the research in the context of this workshop. Summarize background information from a literature review that helps the reader understand the research question. Materials and Method: Describe in detail the materials and procedures you will use to collect data and to make observations. State what protocols and/or data sets you plan or desire to use.* Data Summary/Analysis and Results : Discuss how you will analyze your data and how you will present your results. Discussion: Discuss barriers or teaching challenges in which you might need assistance. Partners: Are there any local scientists, businesses, and educational or research institutions available to connect students and scientists. References/Bibliography: List books, journal articles, web sites, and other communications you can use for your investigation.
