...Africentric... The Mission of First Afrikan Church

What is Africentricity? Africentricity is a philosophy it issues from the wisdom of Afrikan peoples it argues that the wisdom of Afrikan peoples is of value to Afrikans as well as to other peoples of the world it is interdisciplinary

it combines the elements of philosophy science history and mythology

Africentricity is “a fusion of a scientific notion (the bicameral mind) with the spirit (godforce) with the historical (Africa) and the present (technicultural, African American) to formulate a philosophy that allows for questions and analysis and provides answeres and actualization.” (Asante:1982)

Africentricity is Afrikan genius and African values created, reconstructed and derived from our history and experiences in our best interests... It is an uncovering of one’s true self, it is the pinpointing of one’s center, and it is the clarity and focus through which black people must see the world in order to escalate.” (ibid., 7)

Afrocentricity is... “a transforming agent in which all things that were old become new and a transformation of attitudes, beliefs, values, and behavior results.”

Born Arthur Lee Smith, Jr. in Valdosta, GA in 1942 Earned PhD in Communication Studies at UCLA Teaches at Temple University where he started the first doctoral program in African American studies in Molefi K. Asante The Founder of Afrocentricty

Asante is considered one of the most influential voices in the field of African American studies. He is a leading proponent of Afrocentricity, which seeks to move studies in all disciplines away from the traditional European-based viewpoint.

Asante explains Afrocentricity as follows: One of the key assumptions of the Afrocentrist is that all relationships are based on centers and margins and the distances from either the center or the margin. When black people view themselves as centered and central in their own history then they see themselves as agents, actors, and participants rather than as marginals on the periphery of political or economic experience.

When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. (Hosea 11:1) Let bronze be brought from Egypt; let Ethiopia hasten to stretch out its hands to God. (Psalm 68:31) God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am...” Bible Basics

Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there. I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again...”(Genesis 46:2-4b)

The total number of people born to Jacob was seventy. Joseph was already in Egypt. (Exodus 1:5) The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children. A mixed crowd also went up with them, and livestock in great numbers, both flocks and herds. (Exodus 12:37-38) The time that the Israelites had lived in Egypt was four hundred thirty years. (Exodus 12:40)

Moses/Osarsiph

So Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in his words and deeds. (Acts 7:22)

An Early Image of Jesus and the Disciples

The above picture is probably the earliest painting of Jesus Christ in the world. It was painted in the 4th century and was found in the Catacombs of Domitilla in Rome. Clearly this early depiction renders the concept of a black Jesus as something more than a notion contrived by Afrocentrism, but the facts of history. But in truth there is no way to consider the Judeo-Christian faith other than in an African context. The Hebrew language itself is part of the Afroasiatic family of languages, this clearly is an indicator that the world that helped shape the Hebrew people was dominated by African culture. For example, the land that Abraham came from in Mesopotamia, Ur of the Chaldeans, was built by African peoples.
