The Journey of Life Exodus 12:37-42

The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves. Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years. At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions left Egypt.’

Our whole life is a journey Our final destination is Heaven

Our Destination Our destination determines our journey John 14:2-3 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

When our destination is in view it changes the journey Philippians 2:7 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Our Baggage Take what you need for the journey! Exodus 12:38 Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. Deuteronomy 8:4 Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. Our baggage will either help or hinder the journey!

Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Our Direction Exodus 13:21 By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Psalm 199:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path

Our journey can take unexpected turns. Keep your eyes on the destination not the problems around you!

Exodus 14: 10-12 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

Don’t forget what the Lord has done for you! Exodus 16:2-3. In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”

Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?

Conclusion – Our Guide The one who keeps the journey together

Psalm 23 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Our Guide will lead us to the right destination – ‘I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.’ Our Guide will carry our burdens – ‘I lack nothing and your rod and staff comfort me and my cup runs over.’ Our Guide takes us in the right direction- ‘He leads me in quiet waters and guides me along paths of righteousness.’

Our GUIDE has our BEST interests at heart and wants the BEST FOR US.
