Presentation transcript:

Enmity - A feeling of hostility or ill will, as between enemies

 Sampson- A dog of the house of Montague moves me  This is said when Sampson is discussing how much he hates the Montagues with Gregory.  It means that he hates the montagues

Abram- Do you bite your thumb at us, sir? This is said to Sampson because he has been insulted by him.

Benvolio- Part, fools! Put up your swords, you know not what you do He is stopping the fight between Sampson and Abram He does it as he is meant to be the peacemaker.

Tybalt- What, drawn and talk of peace? I hate the word, as I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee. Have at thee, coward Said to Benvolio who is a peacemaker To show how much of a fiery character Tybalt is.

Officers- Down with the Capulets! Down with the Montagues This is when the officers are trying to stop the fighting between the two houses. They say it in this way to show how fed up they are with both houses.

Tybalt- This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy This is when Romeo appears at the Capulet’s party. Tybalt is wanting to kill Romeo for being a Montague and entering the Capulet party.

 Tybalt- Uncle this is a Montague, our foe.   Tybalt says this to Capulet  Because Tybalt hates the Montagues

Romeo- Is she a Capulet? O dear account! My life is my foe’s debt Romeo realises Juliet is a Capulet

Juliet- My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Juliet realises Romeo is a Montague

Juliet- ‘Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself though not a Montague Although Romeo should be her enemy, she refuses to hate him

Friar Lawrence- For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households’ rancour to pure love Friar Lawrence is talking to Romeo. Friar Lawrence is going to marry Romeo and Juliet because he thinks it will stop the fighting between the two sides.

Tybalt- No better term than this; thou art a villain Tybalt is challenging Romeo but Romeo refuses to respond.

Mercutio- A plague a’both houses! I am sped Mercutio is cursing both the houses while he is dying as it was the fighting that led to his death.
