 Definition of pronoun: a word used in place of a noun.  Example: She gave him the book. *say for example the names of the people in the sentence were Catie and Billy… this is how the sentence would look* - Catie gave Billy the book. Interesting facts about pronouns!  There are different kinds of pronouns (here are some examples): - Subject pronouns (used as the subject of the sentence): I, you, he, she, it, we, and they. - Object pronouns (used as the object of the sentence): me, you, him, her, it, us, and them.

 Definition of an adjective: part of speech that describes a noun or pronoun.  Example: I ate a delicious piece of pizza.  *delicious describes the pizza*

 Definition of an adverb: a word that describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb.  Example: She carefully placed the glass on the table.  *carefully tells how she placed the glass- how did she place the glass? Carefully* Interesting facts about adverbs!  you can use adverbs called intensifiers to add more flare to your sentence (the intensifier is underlined): He ran very quickly.  Notice the difference: he didn’t run quickly, he ran very quickly. The word very intensifies quickly.  Some other intensifiers are hardly, quite, rather, and almost.

 Definition of a conjunction: part of speech that links two parts of a sentence, or two sentences together.  Some conjunctions are: and, but, for, nor, or, so, and yet.  Example: She and he ate hamburgers.  *and links together she and he to form a compound subject* Interesting facts about conjunctions!  Conjunctions can be used to connect two sentences, two subjects, or two predicates together.

 Definition of a modifier- word, phrase, or clause used to describe something in a sentence.  Example: She paced in circles around her room as she tried to think of something to do.  *there are three modifiers in this sentence: in circles (prepositional phrase), around her room (prepositional phrase), and as she tried to think of something to do (adverb clause). Interesting facts about modifiers!  Modifiers can be adjectives, adjective clauses, adverbs adverb clauses, absolute phrases, infinitive phrases, participle phrases, and prepositional phrases.

 Definition of a preposition- a word that indicates location.  Example: She set the cake on the table. Interesting facts about prepositions!  Here is a list of some common prepositions: At, above, after, amid, about, around, among, by, beside, below, behind, down, during, except, for, in, into, out, outside, on, onto, to, and up. There are many other prepositions, though. These are just some of them.
