Graphic Design Basics Today we will look at the theory behind Graphic Design. How do you think in order to create a powerful logo, slogan or work for a client?

Lets start with the second word Graphic design is design. This means it has a plan. It has organization. Why? Some things it does: -- it conveys a message immediately. -- it uses images, text and organization to do that.

What makes an effective message? You are problem solving on behalf of your client. Your works are usually used in advertising.

The greatest graphic designer SAUL BASS was a graphic designer who created print work, logos, movie posters, movies sequence and documentaries. Here are some of his best works

Movie Posters

Company logos How many do you recognize?

Bass said you have to know what your clients wants What message do they want to convey? How can your message stand out among the hundreds and thousands of other messages people see every day?

Our client this week Eastside Memorial High is having a showcase in two weeks, where middle school kids come to campus to visit. We are going to make a recruiting poster for Graphic Design and for Audio Video

Bass said all good company logos Have two parts, an icon, and a name, in a creative script. Today, we are going to look at the logo.

Exercise One In powerpoint, on a white background, find three appropriate logos to use for Eastside High. These are symbols, not text. Who are we? What is our name? What symbols fit that name? Take 20 minutes to do this.

Next, see if you can arrange the Logos in a way that conveys a message. Can you create a word with them? Use the basic concepts of graphic design -- repetition -- balance -- proximity
