NATURAL SCIENCES GRADE 5 Energy & Change

A fuel is a material that is burned to produce energy. Wood, gas, coal and oil are examples of fuels. NATURAL SCIENCES GRADE 5

We burn wood to keep warm and to cook our food NATURAL SCIENCES GRADE 5

Energy from the sun is stored in the tree’s wood which is released as light and heat when we burn the wood. SOLAR ENERGY NATURAL SCIENCES GRADE 5

We use it to cook food or heat water. NATURAL SCIENCES GRADE 5

 Paraffin is made from coal or petroleum.  We use it in paraffin stoves to cook food or heat water.  We use it in paraffin lamps to give us light. NATURAL SCIENCES GRADE 5

Wax in the candle is burnt to provide light. The wax contains stored energy which changes into light when burnt. NATURAL SCIENCES GRADE 5

We use the heat of coal to cook our food and warm our houses. NATURAL SCIENCES GRADE 5
