NPHS PANTHER CHEERLEADE RS 2015/2016 Tryouts

Purpose and Function To provide positive leadership and spirit To serve as role models To develop as athletes To develop leadership skills, moral character, and a strong work ethic To support NPHS athletic teams To function as a TEAM

Major Requirements and Responsibilities 1.Minimum GPA of 2.0 (C average) to try out and at each grading period to remain eligible. –Current members must have maintained a B or higher in Cheer for the 3 rd quarter of 2015 to be eligible for tryouts.

11/12. Participation in other Sports and School Enrollment. Cheer is a Full Year Commitment Please refer to consequences for failing to remain committed throughout the entire school year. Some exceptions can and have been made for participation in a SPRING sport.

Organization (p.6) The Varsity Team is composed of: –a minimum of 8 members –a maximum of 24 cheerleaders –11th-12th grade students The Junior Varsity Team is composed of: –a minimum of 8 members –a maximum of 20 cheerleaders –10 th grade students The Freshman Team is composed of: –a minimum of 8 members –a maximum of 20 members –9 th grade students *Squads are not guaranteed to reach maximum numbers, but will use the natural break in points to dictate size. As teams cannot exceed the maximum number, if a tie occurs at that number, neither applicant will be placed.

Tryout and Selection Process Page 7 includes a breakdown of the required paperwork for the tryout packet. The packet is due to Kathy Barker, Activities Secretary, by Friday, may 1 st, 2015 by 4pm. –LATE PAPERWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!

Required Paperwork (p.7) 1.Current CVUSD Physical 2.CVUSD Co-Curricular Code and Contract 3.Acknowledgment and Assumption of Potential Risk Form. 4.Copy of most recent semester/trimester Report Card (For current NPHS students, it will be Quarter 3 Report Card, which we can access without a copy) 5.Signed Cheerleader Application (p. 17) 6.Student/Parent Agreement (p. 18) 7.Cost to Tryout is $ This covers the cost of judges and supplies. CASH ONLY. Must be submitted with other paperwork.

Tryout Process (p.7-9) 200 Total Points –20 points for Academic/Disciplinary Evaluation (see p.8 for details) –180 points for tryout routine evaluation See sample “Cheer Program Tryout Totals” form on p.18 Minimum Score of 130 points required in order to be eligible for team placement.

Tryout Process (p.7-9) Routines are judged by 4 impartial judges. Provided that all 4 judges submit scores, the lowest is dropped.

Tryout Process (p.7-9) Cheerleading Tryout Clinic Tuesday, May 26 th, 2015 and Wednesday, May 27 th, 2015 from 4:00 – 6:00pm in NPHS Girls Activities Room (GAR) NO VIDEOTAPING (INCLUDING CELL PHONES) The tryout process will be reviewed at these clinics.

Tryout Process (p.7-9) Required Tryout Attire: White Top that is long enough to tuck in Solid colored pair of shorts (black preferred) Hair pulled up and off the face. Shoes should be comfortable, athletic, and allow for safe participation No logos are allowed on shirts or shorts, and no identification of being a past cheerleader is allowed.

Tryout Process (p.7-9) The final roster of placed applicants will be posted on the front main office doors of the NPHS administrative offices and on the Cheer Website Team postings will be available by 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015.

Important Dates ( Squads) 6/2: Mandatory Parent Meeting for Selected 6pm, NPHS Library 6/3: New Cheerleader 3:00pm in D- 31 6/4: Thursday, June 4th location TBD –Varsity - 2:00-3:00 –JV - 3:00-4:00 –Fresh - 4:00-5:00

Important Dates ( Squads) Cheerleading Camps & Clinics: –USA Summer California Lutheran University: August 6 th – 9 th –Youth Cheer Camp (Future Panther Cheerleaders): July 27 th – 31st *All Teams Practice Information: –Summer NPHS begin June 22 nd and run Monday – Friday (times to be announced). Calendar will be given out at Post-Tryout Meeting –“Dead period” July 1 st – 26 th

School year practices: –Monday – Wednesday –2:15 – 4:30 Fall – Football, (1/week) Winter– Basketball boys and girls, (2-3/week) Spring – Baseball, Lacrosse, Volleyball (1/week) Additional events - rallies, fundraisers, etc.  calendarwww.nphscheer.com Important Dates ( Squads)

Financial Information Refer to packet for estimated costs. Updated cost breakdowns for each item available at post-tryout meetings. Fundraising available to help reduce the cost of cheer camp. Fundraisers throughout the year help to cover additional costs not covered by parent donation.
