3 This Meeting’s Primary Goals
To provide information regarding the commitment required by both cheerleaders and parents prior to the time of tryouts. To provide general information about the Tidwell Cheer Program.

4 Purpose of the Cheerleading Program:
To place students in a leadership role. To help students learn responsibility. To allow students to be a part of a team. To support our school! To have FUN! To prepare students for future cheer, dance, and other team experiences.

5 “There is a big difference between interest and commitment.”

6 Cheerleader Commitment
Attend all practices and performances ON TIME. Follow the Student Code of Conduct. Be respectful of peers, adults, and the school you represent. Be prepared in all aspects of school. This includes class, practice, AND performances. Follow the guidelines laid out in the Cheerleading Handbook (see demerits)

7 Parent Commitment Drop-off/pick-up your student for ALL practices and performances on time. Assist your student in any fundraising and team-building activities. Pay for the cost of participation. ($ uniform + $ camp fee)

8 *Times and days of practice are subject to change.*
Time Commitment One to two practices per week. Limit of one evening performance per week. For performances away from Tidwell, a bus will transport the squad to the game. Parents are required to pick-up from performance location (BNHS or NHS). Participation in athletics and other sports is not an issue. We try to plan our calendar accordingly. *Times and days of practice are subject to change.*

14 Cost: FAQ Do I have to pay for anything throughout the year?
No, we will not ask you for money throughout the year unless the decision is made by the squad and agreed upon by you. Can I set up a payment plan? No, all payment should be ready to pay the day of the fitting. When is the uniform money due? The fitting is April 30th. You will be expected to pay by the date of the fitting.

15 Cheer Tryouts

16 Eligibility List Friday, 3/2, the Eligibility List will be posted on the cheer website. Eligibility requirements: Parent Meeting Attendance/Notification All candidates posted are approved to tryout.

17 Tryout Video A video of the dance and cheer will be posted to the website on March 5th following Monday’s workshop. March 5th’s workshop will be used in its entirety for learning tryout material.

18 Cheer Workshop: March 5th
All cheer candidates MUST attend workshop from 4:20p – 6:20p. This will provide students with an opportunity to go over the dance, cheer, jumps, and ask any last minute questions. Pick-up at 6:20p is MANDATORY. Late pick-up can result in forfeit of tryout.

Tumbling (Optional) SPIRIT! Each student will tryout individually.

20 What do I wear for tryouts?
Black shorts White shirt Hair in a pony tail No bow Tennis shoes and white socks Make-up/Nail Polish: Minimal natural tones only.

21 DON’T DO IT… Wear anything saying that you are/have been a cheerleader
Wear shorts with a print on your bottom Style your hair half up/half down Have bangs hanging in your face Wear JEWELRY Attend tryouts wearing loud make-up/nail polish

22 Tryouts: FAQ Can I watch?
No, tryouts are closed to the public. Parents will not be allowed in the building. Who will be judging? What does the score sheet look like? (See Handbook) When will my student find out the results? The list will be posted on the cheer website the same day within 2 hours of completion.

23 I made the squad! Now what?

24 Physical Please schedule a physical as soon as the ‘Made It List’ is posted. Cheerleaders will not be allowed to participate until their coach has received a completed physical! The last day physical forms will be accepted is April 30th.

25 Uniform Fitting April 30th at 4:20p, in the gym
Varsity Rep will be here to size students and custom fit their uniforms A parent must be present All uniform money is due.

26 Captains Captains will be selected at the end of cheer camp.
Number of captains per squad is decided by squad coach.

27 Cheer Camp 2018 – 2019

28 CAMP Camp is mandatory. This is where we learn ALL of our cheers, chants, stunts, and dances. We use what we learn at camp ALL year long, and it is a major bonding experience for the squad. Please make vacation arrangements accordingly. When: TBA (Approx. June 8 – 10) Where: TBA How Much: $150.00

29 Stunting All 7th and 8th Graders will be trained in basic stunting.
The rigor of the stunting skills required will be based on the comfort level of the coaches and THEN the comfort level of the participants.

30 Tumbling All 7th and 8th Graders will be allowed to perform previously learned stunting skills. No NEW tumbling skills will be taught through the Tidwell Cheer Program. Coaches will only be spotting tumbling skills of their combined comfort level.
