1 Welcome Parents and Student Athletes
North Forsyth Middle School Cheerleading Try-out Meeting Competition/Football Coach: Nicci Durban Basketball Coaches: Katie Mayfield and Kelly Newman

2 Tryout Dates April 22-25, in the NFMS gym 4:30-6:30
Tryouts on Thursday will run later than the clinic days, you will need to stay until all tryouts are complete in the case of call backs. Bring a CD on the first day of tryouts and I will burn the dance music for you. I will also post the music on the website.

3 Eligibility Squad members will be made up of 7th and 8th graders and will be chosen based upon their ability and skill level Students must have passed a minimum of 5 classes for the 1st semester Students must have a current physical on file with all insurance information completed and up to date.

4 Requirements Cheer Dance Jumps - toe touch and pike or hurdler‏
Positive Attitude Tumbling (competition squad only) back handspring etc... Good Grades Good Attendance Current Physical on file Everyone must be dressed in appropriate attire everyday. Additionally, you must wear red shorts and a white shirt for the actual try-out.

5 Additional Requirements
Tumbling is a requirement this year for the competition squad only and is worth 20 points on the score sheet (10 standing and 10 running). If you are interested in making the competition squad, tumbling classes are strongly encouraged. Tumbling scores will not be counted for the basketball squad

6 Available Spots Football/Competition: 18–22
7th Grade Basketball: 10-16 8th Grade Basketball: 10-16 *Spots will be filled according to skill level*

7 Expectations Attend the tryout dates
You must be able to attend all choreography sessions Participate in all fund-raising and community service projects Maintain high academic standards and a good attendance record Attend all games and practices Participate in all games/practices/competitions regardless of all-star cheerleading Comply with the all-star policy Reflect a positive image at all times

8 County Policy 5. In the event that a sports club or outside activity conflicts with the participation on a school sponsored team, the coach and/or athletic director will have the authority to remove the athlete from the team for failure to support his/her commitment to the school sponsored program.

9 Competition Calendar June are mandatory attendance dates for choreography Leave all Saturdays open during the months of September and October, competition dates will not be set until August 5.

10 Basketball Schedule and Requirements
Must attend choreography clinic mid to late September Attendance at practices and games are mandatory The season begins the 1st week of November and runs through February. No practice during Thanksgiving or Christmas break 7th grade games are held on Tuesdays 8th grade games are held on Thursdays 2 Friday night games when all teams are scheduled to play A detailed calendar will be handed out at the beginning of the school year

11 Approximate Cost for Competition Squad
$850 - Can be split into payments of $425 each The first payment is due by May 24. The second payment is be due by August 9. There will be 2 fund raisers to help with cost. Coupon Card –the profit from each card sold will come off your total Sponsors - get 9 and you have paid for your season

12 Cost Breakdown Competition Squad
$150 – Choreography and music $78 – Warm-up $90 – Competition Shoes $45 – Sideline Shoes $15 – Bag $47 – 3 T-shirts $28.50 – 2 Pair of bloomers $10 – Bows $9 – Car magnet $20 – 1 Parent shirt $35 – Booster Club $325 – 5 months at Twisters for $65 a month Grand Total of $ … and that is why we have fundraisers!!!! 

13 BINGO!!!! Our biggest fundraiser of the year is BINGO night. This has been a tremendous success the last three years and helps us pay for competition fees, uniforms and various other items and events that spring up throughout the season. Each family is expected to be involved and help with this event. I will ask for volunteers after the squad is chosen to help organize this event.

14 Cost for Basketball Squad
$350 for Bball only $150 in addition to competition payment if you cheer for both squads $78 - Warm-ups $10 - Bag $45 - Shoes $10 - Bloomers $10 - Bow $20 - Long sleeve t-shirt $10 - Short sleeve t-shirt $110 –Uniform $25 - Half-time choreography $35 – Booster Club Fee

15 Basketball Fundraisers
Local Coupon Cards Each cheerleader must sell 5 coupon cards for the team and then the profit from each additional card sold will come off your total Ferguson’s Meat Market Raffle A chance to win $300 worth of steak, chicken and beef Tickets are sold for $5 and each girl must sell 5 tickets to pay for the cost of the prize.

16 Disclaimer Picking the team is like putting together pieces of a puzzle. Just because you have made the team in the past does not guarantee you a spot this year. Everyone must give their all and work hard at try outs.
