BSc Computing Systems Induction - salient points

EC1 If you have extenuating circumstances for late or non-submission of coursework or extenuating circumstances for poor performance or non-attendance at an examination you should report these to the course director on an EC1 form (available on course webpage).

Deregistration In the unlikely event that you need to withdraw from the course you need to follow the deregistration process on the Portal. Failure to do so may result in problems with fees. You will also need to be subject to an exit interview. In all cases you need to make an appointment to speak to the course director.

Plagiarism Plagiarism is a serious offence. Please familiarise yourself with the University Policy on plagiarism (available on course webpage).

Student Representation You need to elect a student representative. Please collaborate with your colleagues to achieve this. The course webpage contains information on Student Representation. Once you have elected a representative, he/she needs to contact the course director.

Studies Advice You will be allocated a studies advisor. The list of allocated studies advisors will appear on the course webpage by the end of teaching week 1. You should contact your studies advisor to introduce yourself and make an appointment for a consultation. If you discover that you have not been allocated a studies advisor or you don’t know who your advisor is please contact

Student Support Student support offer a range of services in connection with finance, health, disability and general counselling. If you have a disability which you have not yet reported to Disability Services (DS) you need to do so now. A link to DS is available through Student Support at… – Disability Services will assess your needs and provide a report which will be used to inform staff who teach you

The Examination Board Your examination board will take place every September. This examination board will make decisions regarding your continued progress on the course. All ‘decisions’ are released on the portal within 48 hours of the meeting of the Examination Board. – You will not be able to enrol on-line until after ‘decisions’ are released on the portal. If you have satisfactorily passed all of your modules you will simply proceed to the next year of your course. Should the Examination Board decide that you need to retake module assessment, please note that this will normally be retaken in the next academic year and the course director will send you (by post) what is called a ‘Communication of Results’ (CR) sheet which will provide the necessary details regarding the module to be retaken – If an examination is involved it will be retaken when it is scheduled to run in the next academic year. – If coursework needs to be retaken you should contact the appropriate module tutor at the start of the relevant semester so that supplementary coursework can be arranged in a timely fashion.
