Drawings ACT 380 1

Objective Realize the organization and intent of construction drawings 2

Definition O Drawings are graphic and textual information organized on a two-dimensional surface for the purpose of conveying data about a specific portion of a project O The information on a particular drawing varies with: O who will use it O what the project phase is O what the drawing represents 3

May Show the Following for Each Material, Assembly, Component, & Accessory: O Location O Identification O Dimension and Size O Details and Diagrams of Connections O Shape and Form 4

Design Phase Drawings O Establish the scope & design of a project O Schematic design phase- may include sketches, renderings or conceptual diagrams O These drawings describe the size, shape, volume, spatial relationships, and functional characteristics of components O Design development phase- multiple views of project shown 5

Design Phase Drawings O Primarily tools to convey ideals of the visual effect of a project O Show the qualities of space in terms of surface texture, finishes, lighting, and color 6

Construction Drawings O Consist of Contract & Record drawings O Contract drawings may included: O Demolition- show existing construction to be removed O Renovation – existing construction to be modified O New Construction – construction to be provided 7

Shop Drawings O Further illustrate portions of the project O Show how a particular aspect of the work is to be fabricated and installed 8

A/E Prepares Supplemental Drawings O These drawings supplement the contract documents O Often the changes on the drawings are marked by placing a “bubble” or “cloud” around the affected area 9

Record Drawings O These are drawings that are marked-up or corrected contract drawings indicating changes in work incorporated during construction O Include: field changes, modifications, supplemental drawings, and significant changes in scope 10

Drawings Consist of: O Plans – floor, roof, site, framing, and reflected ceiling O Elevations – exterior building, interior room, and specialized components O Sections – transverse, cross, or longitudinal of building, walls, or site O Diagrams – electrical single-line, plumbing riser O Schedules – room finish, window/door, equipment 11

Drawing Standards O Sheet/Drawing Identification O Graphics – line weights (vary) O Symbols O Dimensions O Notes (terminology used should be the same as in specs) O Abbreviations 12

Uniform Drawing System O UDS in development for several years O Standardizes: O Organization & Presentation of drawing sets O Sheets O Schedules O Diagrams O Drafting conventions/colors O Standard system for keynotes, attributes, CAD layering 13
