Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. As an apprentice your child will: work alongside experienced staff gain job-specific skills earn a wage and get holiday pay study towards a related qualification (usually one day a week) Apprenticeships take 1 to 4 years to complete depending on their level.

Levels of apprenticeship An apprenticeship has an equivalent education level and can be: Intermediate - equivalent to 5 GCSE passes Advanced - equivalent to 2 A level passes Higher - can lead to NVQ Level 4 and above, or a foundation degree Who can apply You can apply for an apprenticeship while you’re still at school. To start one, you’ll need to be: 16 or over living in England not in full-time education

Important Information  Students who have not achieved an A*-C GCSE in English and maths by age 16 will continue to study towards achieving them as a part of their 16 to 19 study programmes.

Where ARE They now?  Is there one pathway that appeals more strongly than the rest?  Do they already have a clear idea about what they want to do?  What might be a back up plan?  What skills and qualities do they have that an employer, college or 6 th form might value?

And finally…  Good work habits  Avoid burning the candle at both ends!  Start revision early  It’s not too soon to start
