2 Thank you for coming this evening… Overview of the KS4 curriculum and choices. The BTEC First Diplomas and National Certificate in ICT. Timeline for the process Individual subject talks followed by questions –Business, –ICT, –Horticulture, –Health and Social Care

4 Overview of the Curriculum Programme B combines ‘Academic’ and ‘Vocational’ courses 5 compulsory GCSE courses [X7 GCSEs] 1 additional GCSE Expressive Arts Choice 1 BTEC First Diploma/National Certificate Choice Total equivalent to 12 GCSEs Non-GCSE PE Single tutorial period

5 Fixed Curriculum Components All pupils study GCSE courses in: English Language and Literature Mathematics Dual Award Science RE A Modern Foreign Language

6 Choices to be made Pupils choose 1 course from each category: BTEC First Diploma/National Certificate –Business –ICT –Health and Social Care –Horticulture An Expressive Arts GCSE: –Art –Drama –Music –PE

7 BTEC First Diploma/National Certificate in ICT Business, ICT, Horticulture and Health and Social Care on offer Equivalent to 4 A-C GCSE passes Focus on work related skills Assessed by portfolio of evidence Routes into Post 16 Smaller groups (approx 18 - 20) St. Paul’s has a history of success in these courses

8 Timeline December - Options assembly December – Interviews with staff January – Options Evening January – Speak to subject staff and tutors January 29 th – Deadline for handing in the forms February – Timetabling and groups March - Letters to parents confirming courses

9 Summary Two choices to make Plenty of advice available Parents and learners to use the ‘Options Booklet’ to discuss choices Listen to the subject presentations Choices will be made on Tuesday 26 th January 2010 if not made before then. Tutors will offer support.
