2. Did you know … The law has changed and you will need to stay in learning until you are 17?

3. Why did the law change?  The world of work is changing.  New jobs are being created that require higher skills.  Employers will be looking for people with more skills, training and qualifications.

4. The more training and qualifications you have, the better your chances of getting and keeping a good job that you enjoy in the future. Many young people don’t stop learning at 17 or even 18 they:  Go to university  Go to college  Enter work based training  Take on an Apprenticeship to improve their chances even further.

5. So what are my options after Year 11?  Full-time education, such as school or college  Work-based learning, such as an Apprenticeship  Part-time education or training if you are employed, self employed or volunteering for more than 20 hours a week

7. What sorts of qualifications can I do?  A/ AS levels in a range of subjects  Vocational qualifications such as BTECs in a range of areas  Work based qualifications whilst training for an Apprenticeship  Foundation Learning courses to help me improve my qualifications and work skills

8. What sort of jobs will be around in Suffolk? These are the growing areas for work in Suffolk:  Health and Social Care  Energy  Ports and Logistics  ICT  Creative Media  Tourism  Food and Drink  Biotechnology  Engineering

9. What do I need to do next?  Start thinking about the subjects you like the best.  Think about your skills, interests and the sort of work that might be best for you.  Research your career ideas to see what qualifications and skills are needed  Look at university courses to see if they require particular subjects  Visit open days; find out the application dates  Talk to people in areas of work you are interested in

10. What if I don’t know what I want to do after Year 11? Don’t worry – there’s plenty of time to make your mind up and there will be lots of people and information around to help you.

11. Who can help me?  Talk to your parents, carers, careers specialists, teachers and tutors who can help you think about the right path for you  Keep your options open in your subjects  Work as hard as you can to get the highest grades you can achieve.
