Why do we run a residential trip?  A chance to experience different activities within a different environment  Building relationships with peers and adults  Collaboration, co operation and challenges  Being away from home, within a supportive setting  Building independence  Memories

What curriculum areas do the 3 days cover?  The trip covers a wide range of subjects including History [Tudors/Celts/Vikings and Romans]  Art/DT  PSHE: developing friendships/relationships, social and life skills  Science: environmental studies/habitats

A Typical 3 day stay at Ufton Court  Wednesday–Leave school 9.00 am Arrive at 10 am. Arrival and welcome. History Detectives: exploring the building. Historical photo mapping/orienteering exercises. Environmental science/ nature walks [day and night]  Thursday – Further activities all based within the centre grounds e.g. Archery, wattle and daub and finishing the day with a historical Banquet. Night walks.  Friday –Roman Raid, Animal Husbandry, farming duties. Leave centre at 2pm.

Exploring the grounds

Meals  All meals are catered for by the Centre,  Each day the children have to set the tables for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They are also expected to serve food to each other and to clear away.  Vegetarians and Vegans, nut allergies, wheat and dairy intolerances and allergies can be fully catered for.  Breakfast – Cereal and toast, beans and fresh fruit.as much as they can eat.  Lunch – A cooked lunch is served. This might be Caribbean chicken with brown rice and salad, Lasagne served with broccoli and salad or a Homemade burger served with coleslaw and homemade potato wedges.  Each meal is also followed by desert.  Dinner –Again the children are provided with a cooked meal, for example Braised Sausages served with potatoes and peas or BBQ chicken served with pasta and salad followed by apple pie and cream.  On one night they will have a full historical banquet in the Tithe Barn.  On the last day the children will have a picnic lunch in the grounds.  Drinks and snacks mid morning/afternoon.  Evening Hot chocolate

Mealtimes…a chance to catch up

Accommodation A maximum of 50 children can be catered for. There are 3 dormitory wings. These are split into different rooms, with each room having up to 10 beds. The children will sleep in single/bunk beds with fixed ladders and fixed three quarter length guard rails for safety. Toilet/showers en suite or nearby. Night lights in all rooms/ corridors lit at night The children will be separated into boys and girls! Each dormitory wing has space for one or two adults in separate rooms. All rooms are fire alarmed and the entire house is also fitted with heat and smoke detectors. At night the front door is locked.

How tiring is it? The week is aimed at integrating all children and all abilities. It is great fun but the children need to concentrate fully mentally and physically, follow instructions and be organised/ready on time. We expect the same level of behaviour as we do within school am – 9.30 pm~ mid morning/afternoon drink break, lunch, dinner. Full day of physical activities, Early bird farm duties, Room Inspection, Dining Room duties.
