WARDI Relief and Development Initiatives Over view of WARDI Organization MAY 2015

Establishment of WARDI: WARDI Relief & Development Initiatives is a national non-profit making and non-governmental organization founded in June 1993 and subsequently registered under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the transitional Federal Government of Somalia through under Article 22, Para 1, 2, 3; Article 26 and Article 67 Para3 of the transitional federal charter of Somalia in 2004, as well as the Article 7, Article 26 and Article 32 of the first constitution of Somalia in 1960. WARDI is also registered in Kenya with the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya through the NGO Coordination Act of 1992.

WARDI target groups: WARDI relief and development initiative particularly targets the most vulnerable members of the society mainly women and children, it focuses on issues of WASH, Health, Livelihood, Education, Skill Development, as well as other human rights issues such as Protection, HIV/AIDs, Gender with special focus on women and youth empowerment through civic education, skill development, intensive employment and income generation activities (IGA). Therefore to achieve its indented interventions, WARDI works directly with beneficiary communities at large to identify their needs and found appropriate solutions.

Objectives: To improve protection & the rights among vulnerable people including IDPs and Refugee To increase access to public health care service among vulnerable poor households/ at both urban and rural areas in Somalia To promote sustainable and low cost WASH interventions at both rural and urban settlements To promote sustainable agricultural/livestock production technologies To ensure improved food security and reduction of food aid dependency level in Somalia To increase access to education at all levels including skill and vocational training Continue

To promote sustainable community based natural resource management and integrated livelihood diversification to improve the long term resilience of the community To promote good governance and gender equitability with special focus on women/girls empowerment and eliminations of all forms of violence against women including FGM, rape, domestic violence, etc

Areas of Intervention: WARDI aims to collaborate and provide assistance in all relevant sectors. Some of the key sectors focused by WARDI include but not limited: Emergency relief, response and preparedness Food security and agricultural support (farming, fishing production and livestock support) Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Health including reproduction health programme Nutrition Education Peace Building and Good Governance Awareness, case management and counselling of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and HIV/AIDS Protection IDPs and Children

Geographical coverage The current programs of WARDI Relief and Development Initiatives are currently covering six (6) regions in South Central Somalia including; Banadir Hiran Lower Shebelle Middle Shebelle Bakol and Galgaduud

WARDI Partners and Collaborations Among the agencies that WARDI works and maintains  partnerships for community development support so far are: UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, WFP, UNOCHA, FAO, UNDP, IOM, DRC, OXFAM Novib, IRC, OIC, AFSC, SC, Care International and Action Medeor. WARDI also works closely with the following ministries in ensuring effective delivery of services to the people: Ministry of health, water and minerals, internal affairs, education, agriculture, labour, women and human rights and youth and sports.
