Must have completed Art I (Beginning Art) Must have ample TIME to work outside of class Must have a strong work ethic and know how to manage your time Must LOVE ART!  AP Studio Art is a Freshman College level course  These courses require students to purchase his / her own materials  A class set of some media is available to work with in class to reduce having to travel with all materials

Format of Artwork and Portfolio Submissions A total of 24 pieces are required for the AP Drawing and AP 2D Design courses. 20 pieces are required for the AP 3D Design course. All pieces will be submitted digitally  BREADTH- 12 pieces Must show a variety of media, approach, and subject matter- teacher guided directives  CONCENTRATION- 12 pieces. Student creates a body of work that is an in depth investigation into a specific concept and media (student’s personal voice)  QUALITY- 5 actual pieces mailed to the College Board (of the original 24 pieces)

Advantages of taking an AP Studio Art course  Be an informed and critical decision-maker as you develop a portfolio that is personal to your individual talents and interests, while demonstrating mastery of drawing and design principles  Explore your creativity and become an independent thinker in your contributions to art and culture  Explore drawing issues including line quality, light and shade, rendering of form, composition, surface manipulation, the illusion of depth and mark-making through a variety of means, such as painting, printmaking or mixed media

More Advantages of taking an AP Studio Art Course  Stand out in college admissions!  Develop technical skills and familiarize yourself with the functions of visual elements as you create an individual portfolio of work for evaluation at the end of the course  Participate in class discussions where you will analyze and critique your own work as well as your peers’  Build college skills!  These courses can lead to a career in over 100 different areas!

AND MORE Advantages of taking an AP Studio Art Course  Experience! Taking a college level course give you an idea of what classes could be like in college  Have your artwork “graded” by professors and professionals  Potential college credit! A score of a 3 is a passing grade for many colleges. Why not start college with credit under your belt?  Save money! A college studio art class could cost several hundred dollars. These courses only cost a small fee for the portfolio submission- most of the cost is covered by Pinecrest!
