A Different Kind of Research Project Research Project

Project Information Sometimes research projects are boring. You look up the information, you write a paper and that’s it. But do you really learn anything about your subject matter other than just the facts? Are you going to remember the research in a month, a year, or more? Probably not. Here’s a project that involves research, but you will present the information in a much different way than you have probably ever done before.

FOUNDING FATHER IN A BOX!! Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you…

Project Directions For this project, you will choose an founding father to study. This can be a person that we have already covered in class, or it can be someone that comes later in government history. You can use you textbook as a source of information, or the internet, or magazines, or other history books— the list goes on and on. The only guideline that I will give you is, please do NOT choose: George Washington.

Project Continued… Find a shoe box. There are many options on this one-the stronger the box, the better. Try not to get too big with box-shoe boxes are probably the best, and refrigerator boxes are out of the question!! The outside of this box will be decorated with images that would remind a person of your chosen founding father. For example, you could print images from the internet to cover the outside of the box. Or you could create the images yourself. Or, you could make something else altogether. Once again, the possibilities are endless.

PROJECT CONTINUED Here’s where the real research comes in…

Project Continued… Inside the box, you will place a minimum of 6 items that are related to the founding father. These can include items that you have found or things that you have made. It’s totally up to you, but I would recommend that you use creativity to make yours stand out from the others. I can give you some ideas, but I prefer for the work to be your own.

To Get the Grade! Inside the box, you will need to include a TYPED page listing the items that you have included and WHY they are relevant to the founder. In other words, why did you include each item?? Grading…This project is worth 150 points. Breakdown of points is: Exterior of box60 points Craftsmanship (neatness)25 points Presentation ( is it visually appealing?)15 points Does the exterior relate to the interior?20 points Interior of Box90 points Minimum 6 items related to the founder10 points Craftsmanship (neatness)20 points Creativity ( is your project unique or did you 30 points borrow everyone else’s ideas?) Presentation (is it visually appealing?30 points This includes the typed explanation page, proper grammar, etc. Due date:________________________
