Presentation transcript:

 What are the functions of the skeletal system?  Give 3 examples of joints.  What is the function of the muscular system?  Summarize how muscles pairs work.  Contrast voluntary and involuntary muscles.

 Functions: 1.Provide shape and support 2.Enable movement 3.Protects organs 4.Produces blood cells 5.Stores minerals and other materials

 Types of joints: 1. Immovable joints – bones are connected in a way that allows little or no movement. 2. Hinge joint – allows forward or backward motion. 3. Ball-and-socket joint – allows the greatest range of movement. 4. Gliding joint – allows one bone to slide over another. 5. Pivot joint – allows one bone to rotate around another.

 Functions: 1. Allow for movement of body and organs. Muscles MUST WORK IN PAIRS!! See the video of muscles working in pairs: t-of-limbs

1. involuntary muscles 2. voluntary muscles  muscles that are not under your conscious control.  muscles that are under your conscious control.

1. involuntary muscles 2. voluntary muscles  Muscles that make up your: heart, stomach, intestines, diaphragm, eyes, eyelids  Skeletal muscles
