What are the functions of the skeletal system? Give 3 examples of joints. What is the function of the muscular system? Summarize how muscles pairs work. Contrast voluntary and involuntary muscles.
Functions: 1.Provide shape and support 2.Enable movement 3.Protects organs 4.Produces blood cells 5.Stores minerals and other materials
Types of joints: 1. Immovable joints – bones are connected in a way that allows little or no movement. 2. Hinge joint – allows forward or backward motion. 3. Ball-and-socket joint – allows the greatest range of movement. 4. Gliding joint – allows one bone to slide over another. 5. Pivot joint – allows one bone to rotate around another.
Functions: 1. Allow for movement of body and organs. Muscles MUST WORK IN PAIRS!! See the video of muscles working in pairs: t-of-limbs
