Project 3 – Storyboard, p. 5 SlideTextImage/VideoAnimationSound Slide 15Framing Scenes for Film/VideoFade OutMusic: “Hue Fantaisie” by James Galway, Phillip Moll, & Jeanne Galway (continues) Slide 16Framing a shot is composing the scene within the four corners of the screen. The first shot was a long shot and established the context. The second shot is called a medium shot. The final two shots are close-ups. Close-ups communicate intimacy and allow the viewer to see facial expressions. Jeff & Emma talking at the patio table. 1.) First shot includes long view of deck. 2.) Second shot includes table and people. 3.) Third shot includes individual shots of each person. NoneNarration of text.

Project 3 – Storyboard, p. 6 SlideTextImage/VideoAnimationSound Slide 17Perspective is how deeply the viewer sees into the image. It can be communicated by the size of objects in the foreground or background. It may also taps into the viewer’s emotions. Notice this shot conveys a smaller sense of space and intimacy. NoneNarration of text. Slide 18The camera’s point of view or POV is used to help viewers identify with the different viewpoints in a story. The first shot is called an establishing shot and is used to provide context for the shots that follow. The second shot is from one point of view in the conversation. The final shot is from the other character’s point of view. NoneNarration of text.

Project 3 – Storyboard, p. 7 SlideTextImage/VideoAnimationSound Slide 19Camera angle is also connected to POV and perspective. Shooting from above can create a sense of looking down or smallness. Shooting from behind can add interest and emphasize different aspects of the scene. NoneNarration of text. Slide 20Continuity is when the shots all connect together fluidly to make the story clear and meaningful. Part of continuity is the transitions between shots. Cutaway shots move from the main characters to other things going on in the scene. NoneNarration of text. Slide 21Movement takes on new meaning in videos as the actual movement can be captured. Panning is a camera technique where the camera remains stationary but moves across the scene. Handheld involves holding the camera as the operator moves through the scene creating a jerky or uneven sense of motion. After: DissolveNarration of text.
