Learning Objective: Today we will review singular and plural possessive nouns in text. WC 1.4 Do gestures with students. Open one hand for compare and another hand for contrast and ask students to repeat

Singular possessive nouns A singular possessive noun is a word that shows something belongs to one person or thing. Usually make a singular noun possessive by adding an apostrophe with the letter s to a singular noun Example: The soldier’s boots are made of leather. Non Example- The fur of an animal is made up of cells.

Plural possessive nouns A plural possessive noun is a word that shows something belongs to more than one person or thing. Usually make a plural noun possessive by adding an apostrophe AFTER THE s ON a PLURAL noun Example: All the students in Room 7 can use the computers in the back of the room. They are the students’ computers.

SPECIAL CASES When we take an IRREGULAR plural noun and make it possesive, WE ADD an apostrophe and then “s”. Example: (Geese means more than one goose.) I saw a whole flock of geese fly by and noticed that the geese’s feathers were white.

Steps to identifying singular and plural nouns. Step 1: Read the sentence Step 2 Identify the singular or plural possessive Step 3: For a plural noun that add an apostrophe at the end of the plural if it ends in “s” For a singular or an irregular plural noun add an apostrophe and then “s”. NO MATTER WHAT THERE WILL BE AN “S” AND AN APOSTROPHE, JUST IN DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS.
