Topics of Conversation Behavioral Expectations at School- Code of Conduct (See Student Agenda, pages 10-16) Steps for Parents Use of Technology Bullying/Cyber Bullying Dress Code Academic Honesty Getting Connected Substance Abuse Medication at School Traffic/Points of Entry

Steps for Parents Clearly communicate your expectations Talk to your child about possible issues Get to know your child’s friends and their families Supervise and structure their free time Reduce # of opportunities for possible trouble (i.e. The Highland’s”)

Use of Technology See page 16 in Student Agenda (review with your student) All students/parents sign an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for technology use on campus Students who violate AUP will be subject to disciplinary action, including the possible loss of school computers & other technological privileges

Bullying Bullying is defined as “an act of repeated aggressive behavior in order to intentionally hurt another person, physically, mentally or emotionally” (Wikipedia) Contact an administrator immediately if you believe your student may be a victim of bullying Bullying is NOT tolerated on our campus and will be dealt with swiftly and directly

Cyber-Bullying (#1) Cyber-Bullying involves the “use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group that is intended to harm or embarrass others” (Nat. Crime Prev. Council) Cell phones/texting/photos/ /Internet Social Networks (Facebook, My Space, etc.) Monitor your student’s electronic interactions; hold your student accountable; contact parents

Cyber-Bullying (#2) Laws restrict school’s involvement only to cyber- bulling situations that occur on campus or that directly affect school performance School administrators do NOT have direct access to Social Network Sites However, if you believe your student may be the victim of cyber-bullying, you may give hard copies of the correspondence to an assistant principal for review and/or contact SDPD

Dress Code Dress Code for CVMS clearly spelled out on page 11 of Student Agenda (please review with your student) Students may be required to wear a “loaner” for the day or have proper attire sent to school Progressive Discipline will be enforced for dress code violations (page 11)

Academic Honesty Academic Honesty for SDUHSD is clearly spelled out on page 10 in Student Agenda (please review with your student) Honest behavior is an expectation for all CVMS students Academic Dishonesty is not tolerated; this includes ALL classes (PE not an exception)

Getting Connected Encourage your student to join clubs, sports (through the Boys & Girls Club), music, drama, study buddies, other campus activities, etc.) Club Day is scheduled for Friday, September. 17 th at lunch! Studies show that students who are connected to school generally do better academically & socially than those who are not

Medication at School Students may NOT carry, administer, give or sell ANY medication while on campus (giving, administering or selling is a violation of the district’s Substance Abuse Policy) Students requiring medication during the school day need a signed permission slip from parents or physician The medication will be kept in the health office (see pg. 7 in Student Agenda)

Traffic/Points of Entry (#1) Traffic/pick up & drop off: – Traffic is congested on Mykonos Lane between 8:10 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and again between 2:45 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. (Strongly consider picking up your student after 3:15 PM, if possible) – Three main points of entry/exit 1) Mykonos Lane 2) Sidewalk path from Carmel Country Rd. (between The Heights & Elysian condos)

Traffic/Points of Entry (#2) 3) Sidewalk path from Townsgate Dr. next to Community Center & then up ramp to black top – We highly encourage students to come to school in a way other than a car: Bus Drop off blocks away from school and walk Bike – If you DO drive to campus, be sure to obey the laws (do not cross double lines on Mykonos!)
